High fishing yield
On the morning of February 22, more than 20 tuna fishing boats of fishermen inside and outside the province arrived at Hon Ro port with the joy of the first sea trip. “Our ship went offshore from February 2. Thanks to the favorable weather on the sea and the flow of fish, we have caught 19 tunas, with a total weight of 740kg. Currently, the price of big-eyed yellow-fin tunas is purchased at 115,000 VND/kg, about 10,000 VND/kg higher than usual, so we can earn several tens of millions VND for this trip”. A fisherman named Tran Quoc Tuan said. Other ship owners also revealed that all boats have caught 700 - 800kg of tunas each.
Before that, more than 20 trawlers also landed at Hon Ro Port with a good fishing yield, 7-10 tons of fish each.
According to Lu Thanh Phong - Head of Aquatic Resources Exploitation and Development (under the Fisheries Department), th whole province has 130 fishing boats making the sea-going trip through the lunar new year festival. In order to promptly encourage fishermen, the department has presented the fatherland flags, life jackets and Tet gifts to all the offshore fishing boats. Up to now, the ships have convenient trip and safe return. Fishing boats docking at Hon Ro port showed quite high fishing yield. Besides, thanks to the higher selling price (10 - 15%) higher than usual, many ships have earned good profit.
New sea season
Also on the morning of February 22, at Hon Ro port, many fishing boats were making preparations to go offshore, and many other boats were going to sea, starting a new sea season.
Fisherman Phan Tien Toi shared: “To fishermen, the first voyage of the year is very important, with the hope that a new year will be advantageous with boats full of fish and shrimps”.
According to Nguyen Trung Hieu - Head of Hon Ro Port Management Board, after Tet, more than 50 offshore fishing vessels have left Hon Ro port for sea. To support fishermen, Hon Ro Port Management Board has facilitated them to use services of loading and unloading fish, taking stones, pumping gasoline, oil ... The board has duty shifts 24/24 hour at the wharf to serve fishermen go in and out of the port.
According to statistics of the provincial Fisheries Department, at present, the whole province has more than 4,200 fishing boats, 750 of which have a length of 15 meters or more and do fishing offshore. To accompany fishermen, the Fisheries Department will continue to support for fishermen to access the State's support policies, modernize large capacity ships fully equipped with fishing gears and advanced marine equipment, step up the transfer and support for fishermen to apply science and technology to fishing and preservation in order to improve the efficiency of their voyage, increase their income…
