- Khanh Hoa has many advantages to develop the fisheries. Over the past years, the fisheries has become one of the key economic sectors of the province with an average growth rate of 11.34% per year. In 2020, despite many difficulties due to the effects of the Covid-19 epidemic, the province's fishery output still reached more than 95,590 tons, including more than 80,800 tons from fishing and 14,773 tons from aquaculture; seafood export turnover reached nearly 510 million USD.
- Could you tell us the province’s orientation to develop the fisheries sustainably?
- To build and develop fisheries sustainably and responsibly, for the fishing, the province will continue to rearrange and restructure fishing fleets and fishing force associated with implementing comprehensive solutions against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU); reviewing and mobilizing to convert fishing vessels with destructive fisheries into friendly fishing; supporting fishermen to upgrade equipment installed on fishing boats to ensure safety for people and vehicles when operating at sea, then releasing manual labor and improving the quality of product preservation after fishing. Besides, the province will mobilize investment resources to build and upgrade fisheries infrastructure; linking from fishing to selling between cooperative groups and businesses to ensure stable income for fishermen, ensure the source of raw materials for businesses and make the origin of products transparent; diversifying processed products, promoting deep processing in order to increase the added value of aquatic products; impulsing promotion, marketing and expansion of seafood export markets ...
For aquaculture in coastal areas, water surface will be alloted so that people can be assured to invest in production; people will be guide to apply science and technology to aquaculture to ensure safety and improve economic efficiency, converting from traditional wooden cages to new material cages standing waves and wind; aquaculture will be combined with tourism at sea; new varieties of high economic value will be attached more importance... In addition, groups to associate with aquaculture wil be formed, and then cooperatives will be established to link with businesses in product selling, stabilizing income for raisers...
For the protection and development of aquatic resources, the fisheries will build a fund for the protection and development of aquatic resources, and call on organizations and individuals to contribute and support to carry out regular and effective regeneration. The fisheries will also regularly patrol and handle violations in fishing; attach importance to the development and protection of marine conservation zones and marine biodiversity zones; improve the performance of coastal fisheries management boards ...
- To celebrate the traditional day of the Vietnam Fisheries Industry this year, what practical activities does the locality have to propagate to the community about the protection and regeneration of aquatic resources, sir?
- We have organized propaganda campaigns, launched the emulation of production labor, organized the collection of coastal plastic waste, and released aquatic breeds ... These activities aims to propagate and raise awareness of fishermen and the society on the protection of the marine environment, the protection and regeneration of aquatic resources.
For the breeding activities to regenerate the sources, this year, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has mobilized units operating in the field of fisheries and the fishermen community to participate in releasing 1 million breeders in Ran Trao marine ecosystem protection area (in Van Hung commune, Van Ninh district).
