According to Nguyen Ngoc Y - Head of Economic Division of Van Ninh district, in the winter-spring crop of this year, farmers in the district sowed nearly 3,800 hectares of rice with the main varieties: IR17494, ANS1, ML48, ML202 ... In addition, there are some additional varieties such as: BDR27, Dai Thom 8 ... As of April 20, farmers in Van Ninh district have harvested nearly 2,000 ha of rice, the average yield 82 quintals/ha. In particular, Van Phuoc commune has harvested 250/303 ha of the commune's rice, the yield reached 90.8 quintals/ha. This is the main rice crop of the year, so farmers have give good care as well as technical solutions, and the rice has grown well with high yield and good grain quality.

 

Rice is being harvested in Ninh Hoa town. Up to now, Ninh Hoa farmers have harvested 6,500 ha out of a total of more than 9,000 ha of winter-spring rice, the yield is estimated at nearly 65 quintals/ha, an increase of more than 1 quintal/ha compared to the previous year. In Dien Khanh district, farmers mainly produce rice seeds for enterprises that sign off product consumption, rice production has been stable with high productivity and quality. Vo Van Chau - Head of Economic Division of Dien Khanh district said, as of April 22, about 80% of the province's 4,200 ha of winter-spring rice has been harvested; the average yield reached 75 quintals/ha, an increase of 6.5 quintals/ha over the previous year.

 

 

 

Rice price increases

 

According to Luong Cong Van - Director of Agriculture Cooperative 1 Ninh Quang, Ninh Hoa town, at the beginning of the crop, the price of rice increased highly, but in the middle of the crop, it decreased but now it has increased, the average price of paddy is 6,700 - 6,900 VND/kg, the price of rice seed is 7,100 VND/kg, 500 VND/kg higher than last year. 

 

Sharing the same joy, Vo Hung - Director of Dien Hoa Agricultural Cooperative, Dien Khanh district said, cooperative members have just finished harvesting 210 hectares of winter-spring rice. At the beginning of the crop, rice seed price went up to 7,800 VND/kg, the lowest was 7,000 VND/kg and now has gone up to 7,100 - 7,300 VND/kg. This purchase price is 400-600 VND/kg higher than the previous year and with a yield of more than 80 kg/ha, many cooperative members earn nearly 40 million VND/ha of rice, an increase of about 1.5 times compared to the previous year.

 

According to Luong Kim Ngan - Deputy Director of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of the province, this year, the whole province has more than 20,000 hectares of winter-spring rice, an increase of about 1,000 hectares compared to the previous year. Up to now, farmers have finished harvesting 12,350 hectares, the average yield is estimated at nearly 70 kilograms per hectare, up 4 kilograms per hectare compared to the winter-spring crop last year.

 

 

Along with the harvesting process, at present, specialized agencies and localities are focusing on implementing the summer-autumn rice production plan with the spirit of grasping thoroughly using short-term varieties, concentrated and synchronous sowing to minimize damage because the summer-autumn crop is assessed to have more erratic weather than the winter-spring crop. According to the Provincial Irrigation Department, the whole province has 19 large reservoirs in the whole province, with a capacity of nearly 250 million m3. On April 22, these 19 lakes contain more than 176 million m3. The unit also reviewed the works, implemented the response to the possibility of droughts, floods as well as ensuring the safety of the project, completing the objectives and tasks of these irrigation works. This ensures watering for the upcoming summer-autumn rice crop.
