Previously, in Bau field (in Quang Phuoc village, Van Luong commune), people used to grow 2 rice crops with high yield. However, in recent years, people could only grow one rice crop. Seeing the waste of land resources, local authorities surveyed and selected suitable plants and advocated and supported farmers to switch to growing mangoes, coconuts, etc. Among them, Le Thi Mai's family converted more than 1ha of inefficient rice land to planting Australian mango trees, Taiwanese mango trees, and coconut trees. She shared: “In the past years, the rainfall has been low, so we could not grow rice. With the commune's mobilization and financial support, we dug ponds to store water and switched to growing mango and coconut trees. Up to now, the plants have grown well and earned more than 50 million VND/year. In addition, Mai's family also changed more than 1ha of land to grow watermelons with good yield.

Similarly, being funded, Dang Binh's family (in My Dong village) also changed more than 2.3 hectares of inefficient rice land to plant nearly 800 green-skin grapefruit trees. At the same time, he converted nearly 0.5ha of single-crop rice land to planting more than 1,100 dragon fruit roots. Currently, his family's grapefruit and dragon garden is growing well and giving fruits, promising many prospects.
According to the report of Van Luong Commune People's Committee, most people in the commune are mainly engaged in agriculture, and most of the land is cultivated with rice. However, the climate change has caused the shortage of water. Therefore, the commune has surveyed and mobilized with land suffering water shortage to switch to planting suitable trees to avoid wasting land. From 2017 to now, the commune has supported nearly 1 billion VND in the conversion of plants on an area of more than 60.6 hectares of about 50 households.
People have converted to plant crops such as corn, peanuts, watermelons, mangoes, dragon fruits, pomeloes, coconuts, etc. Before the conversion, the locality supported a part of seedlings, fertilizers and pesticides as well as guide on care techniques and application of scientific advances to cultivation. As a result, most of the converted area to suitable have developed well and crops have for higher yields. The conversion results have evaluated and accepted by departments, branches and the district People's Committee.
Tran Thanh Hai - Chairman of Van Luong Commune People's Committee said that from now until the end of 2021, the commune will convert more than 5 hectares of land for annual and perennial crops to mango and coconut trees with the supporting capital of more than 350 million VND. The conversion of crops has been bringing positive results.
