Khanh Son is entering the main time of the harvest of fruits, especially durian. In the context of complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the district has been trying to remove difficulties to both help farmers sell agricultural products and ensure epidemic preventing.
To avoid mass gatherings and limit contact between traders and farmers, communes and towns have established 31 post-harvest gathering points for agricultural products. Traders only go to the gathering points to buy agricultural products and then transport them. Ta Quoc Phong - Chairman of Son Binh Commune People's Committee said, "There are 8 places to gather agricultural products in the commune. Every day, 8-10 trucks come to gathering points to buy durians with the amount of 150-200 tons.
With an area of 17ha of durians, Dang Tai Bay's household (Cam Khanh village, Son Lam commune) is expected to harvest 300 tons in this year's crop. He signed a contract to sell all durians for businesses at the price of 42,000 VND/kg. These days, his family mobilizes about 50 workers to cut and transport durians. His family has now sold more than 90 tons.
Nguyen Duy Luan's family (Cam Khanh village) is also busy transporting durians to the gathering point. Luan shared: "My family has nearly 2 hectares of durians, this year harvested 20 tons, an increase of 5 tons compared to last year. Currently, the family has finished harvesting durians and cleaned the garden to prepare for the next crop. Although the selling price decreased by about 10,000 VND/kg compared to the previous year, my family still made a profit.
During the past time, Khanh Son district has strengthened connections with businesses and supermarkets inside and outside the province to sell durians of cooperative groups and large gardeners. For small gardeners, traders in the district buy and transport to sell through the post office system, express delivery vehicles... For example, A Hung Trading and Service Co., Ltd (from Binh Thuan province) signed a contract to buy 1,000 tons of durians. The unit is speeding up the process of purchasing and transporting durians to the company for preliminary processing, freezing, etc. According to a representative of Khanh Son branch of A Hung Trading and Service Co., Ltd, up to this point, the company has harvested and transported more than 500 tons of durians.
“Currently, Khanh Son durians are sold at the garden for an average price of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, down about 10-20% compared to last year, but people still make a profit. The whole district has consumed about 50% of the total output of more than 6,200 tons of durian this year, mainly to the southern provinces. The district also encourages gardeners to quickly close contracts with traders for early sale. It is expected that by the end of August the district will complete the durian sale," said Nguyen Van Nhuan - Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee.
