With the strength of fields, forests and sea, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province has many typical products such as agarwood, fish cakes, coconut, garlic... The district is proposing to the province to build trademarks for some typical products.
Wide range of products
For a long time, Van Ninh district has many famous products like agarwood, fish, squids, lobsters, etc. Recently, some new products are coconut and garlic. These are typical products of the district. However, their sales are facing many difficulties, so it is necessary to build brands and geographical indications for local products.
According to statistics, the whole district has 210 hectares of garlic, mainly in Van Hung and Van Thanh communes. The garlic variety grown in Van Ninh originates from Quang Ngai and was brought from Ly Son island to Khanh Hoa by farmers. Tran Ngoc Phu - Chairman of Van Hung Commune Farmers' Association said that garlic is grown very strongly by farmers, expanding in many villages such as Xuan Tay, Xuan Dong... Most of the garlic area is invested with economic irrigation technology and planted in the direction of VietGAP, especially in Van Hung Agricultural Cooperative. In the near future, the Sub-Department of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Control plans to mobilize farmers to develop VietGAP garlic beyond cooperatives.
Tuan Le coconut (Van Tho commune) is famous for its fresh and cool water, thick rice... Tran Quang Khanh - Chairman of Van Tho Commune Farmers' Association said that at present, the coconut area is only 80ha for harvesting. However, if there is a reasonable solution, Tuan Le coconut can be expanded by another 100 hectares.
Proposal to build two brands
Over the past years, Van Ninh has focused on building collective brands for strong products such as Van Ninh garlic and Tuan Le coconut to promote local products, partly improving output and value of these products. Initially, the district proposes to carry out two scientific tasks, including: "Building, managing and developing trademarks for garlic grown in Van Ninh district" and "Building, managing and developing coconuts grown in Tuan Le village, Van Tho commune, Van Ninh district”. The provincial Department of Science and Technology has submitted these tasks to the provincial People's Committee to be approved and included in the Khanh Hoa Provincial Intellectual Property Development Program for the period of 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.
According to Pham Ngoc Luyen - Deputy Head of Economic Division of Van Ninh district, in 2022, the district People's Committee will coordinate with the provincial Department of Science and Technology to implement the two tasks mentioned above in the direction of creating intellectual property by registering trademark rights for Van Ninh garlic and Tuan Le coconut; and building a management model and implementing promotional activities and developing trademarks with place names. It is expected to increase product sales, improve local people's income, and contribute to the local economy.
