Upgrading water reservoirs
Ninh Hoa has about 11,500ha for growing rice, more than 10,000ha for sugarcane, about 2,000ha for vegetable and thousands of hectares of fruit trees, mainly coconuts, jackfruits, mangoes, grapefruits... In the period of 2021 - 2025, Ninh Hoa focuses on converting crops and converting about 4,000 hectares of growing sugarcane inefficiently to fruit trees.
Ninh Hoa currently has 8 water reservoirs, including 4 lakes managed and exploited by Khanh Hoa Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (namely Da Ban, Suoi Trau, Suoi Sim and Tien Du), 1 reservoir managed by Mien Trung Power Development Joint Stock Company (Eakrongrou Lake), 1 lake managed by Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (Hon Khoi lake) and 2 lakes managed and exploited by the locality (namely Ben Ghe and So Quan).
Currently, the repair and upgrading of Suoi Trau reservoir is going to be completed in order to improve the storage capacity and work safety for the reservoir with nearly 10 million m3 of water. The calculation to repair and improve the storage capacity for Da Ban reservoir has also been calculated to raising the water storage capacity from 75 million m3 to 95 million m3 in order to provide water for living, services and expand the agricultural irrigation area of the largest reservoir in the province.

Water for production ensured
According to Quach Thanh Son - Director of the investment project Management Board for the construction of agricultural and rural development projects in the province, after implementing the project of Song Cho 1 reservoir (Khanh Vinh), the province will invest in a tunnel transporting water to irrigate about 2,500ha of agricultural land in Ninh Hoa. It is expected that Song Cho 1 reservoir will be completed and stored by the end of this year, and the investment in the water pipeline to Ninh Hoa will be implemented from 2023.
That is the premise to boost crop conversion in Ninh Hoa, especially in the areas that benefit from the tunnel transporting water from Song Cho 1 lake, including the southern communes of Ninh Hoa such as Ninh Tan, Ninh Xuan, Ninh Hung, Ninh Quang, Ninh Binh... In addition, this tunnel also may supply water to Suoi Trau lake and Cai river to solve the water shortage in the dry season.
