Motivation to go further
According to the leader of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., the installation of a 700-ton crane aims to meet the increasing demand for shipbuilding and achieve the company's long-term development goals in production and business. Right at the beginning of 2021, the company had a plan to invest and in July 2021, the company signed a contract with Hyundai Infra Solution Company (Korea) for the manufacture of a 700-ton crane.
On June 29, 2022, all components of the crane were transported to Vietnam. After 3 months of installation, on September 13, the crane tower was operating smoothly and safely, ready to be put into shipbuilding of Hyundai Vietnam Shipyard. According to specifications, the crane has a total weight of 3,700 tons and a lifting capacity of up to 700 tons. The height of the crane is about 88m from the dock. The whole equipment has an initial investment value of 31.6 million USD. Lee Jong Chan - General Director of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. affirmed that with the installation of the 700 ton Goliath crane, the company will increase the annual production capacity from 108,000 tons to 136,000 tons and can handle the growing volume of shipbuilding without any hitch. The event of installing a 700 ton crane is a major turning point in the company's production and business activities. With this crane, the company will increase shipbuilding capacity and meet many new areas of shipbuilding, reducing the time to assemble a ship to below the 48-day mark compared to the current one, improving efficiency and reduce production costs. This is a solid foundation for the company to build more than 20 ships per year. In the coming time, the company will try to reach out further and develop to become the world's leading shipyard.

Speaking at the completion ceremony of the 700 ton crane, Shin Hyeon Dae - General Director of Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Shipbuilding Company affirmed that Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has become a symbol of success in economic exchanges between Vietnam and Korea since the construction of Hyundai Vietnam Shipyard in 1996. The completion of the 700 ton Goliath Crane will be a symbol and an important milestone showing the new progress of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.. This event not only tightens the cooperation relationship between Hyundai Group and Shipbuilding Industry Corporation but also strengthens the mutual trust and cooperation between Vietnam and Korea.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan praised the recent achievements of Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Co., and highly appreciated the company's contributions to the socio-economic development of the province. He expected that in the future, the company would continue to invest in more equipment to serve the plan to expand production and develop shipbuilding business on a larger scale.
Since 2008 (when the company switched to shipbuilding), the company has handed over 149 bulk carriers and oil tankers with a tonnage of 35,000 tons to 110,000 tons, earning more than 4.8 billion USD in revenue and contributing nearly 10 million USD to the provincial budget each year. In 2021, despite heavy affection by the Covid-19 epidemic and difficulties, the company delivered 10 ships and earned 305 million USD. It is expected that in 2022, the company will try to hand over 14 ships.
