Khanh Hoa expands partnerships in marine economy and many important sectors with Australia

Khanh Hoa Provincial delegation led by Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee paid a working visit to Australia on July 23-28.

Within the trip framework, the delegation signed a plan for the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between the two localities for the period of 2023 - 2028 with the Northern Territory of Australia witnessed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory of Australia, Consul General of Vietnam in Perth (Australia).

The plan is designed to strengthen the relationship and foster important trade partnerships, concretize the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Khanh Hoa People's Committee and the Government of the Northern Territory of Australia in 1998; and promote the value of potentials and strengths in fields of mutual interest.

The plan is to develop a foundation for both parties to cooperate in the areas of investment and trade promotion, high tech fishing, agriculture, aquaculture, education, tourism, arts, sport and culture. The two jurisdictions first agreed to cooperate in 1998, and have committed to renewing bilateral relations after a temporary pause due to Covid-19.

The signing ceremony is witnessed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, Minister of Culture of the Northern Territory of Australia. 

Besides, the delegation had working sessions with agencies and organizations of the Government of the Northern Territory: the Ministry of Agriculture, Tourism and Trade and the Office of the Northern Territory Chief Minister on cooperation in the fields of investment, agriculture, fisheries, labor and education. At the working sessions, representatives of Khanh Hoa province introduced socio-economic development potentials, strengths and orientation of the province.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh, Vietnam is one of six markets of high priority identified in the International Engagement Strategy for increased trade and investment. In particular, Khanh Hoa is one of the localities with the fastest growing economy in Vietnam and well placed to cooperate with the Northern Territory.

The Ambassador believed that Implementation Plan for the 2023-2028 period between Khanh Hoa and the Northern Territory will pave the way for the promotion of practical cooperation in trade and investment in aquaculture, tourism, trade, labor, culture, science, education and training.

At the working sessions, leaders of the Northern Territory and Australian ministries and agencies highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries and two localities.

Administrator of the Northern Territory Hugh Heggie welcomed the visit of the Khanh Hoa Provincial delegation, confirming that the economic cooperation implementation plan signed by Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and the Northern Territory Government is important for sustainable cooperation development in the next 5 years, creating favorable conditions for the Northern Territory to expand industries, strengthen partnerships in agriculture, cotton production and mining industries apart from the national defense and maritime cooperation.

Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said, “Vietnam is a valuable trading partner, and our second largest live cattle export market, supporting local businesses and creating jobs for Territorians. To create local jobs, we have to expand and diversify our economy, and critical to that is expanding our export markets and international partners. Our two jurisdictions share similar climates, representing significant opportunities for agriculture and aquaculture businesses in the Northern Territory to expand into Khanh Hoa Province.”

Minister for Northern Australia and Trade, Nicole Manison said, “Khanh Hoa Province and the Northern Territory share many similarities, with beautiful landscapes, a bustling tourism industry and a strong agricultural and fisheries industry that contributes to our growing economies. Closer collaboration and cooperation between our two Governments will help diversify our industry and business opportunities, as well as expand our trade and investment sectors. There are huge opportunities for Territory businesses in agriculture and fishing, as well as education and training, that will benefit not only Territorians but the people of Khanh Hoa Province.”

Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan said that the signing of this cooperation agreement is very important and a strong premise for orientation, promoting local cooperation relations of Khanh Hoa Province in particular, and Vietnam in general with the Northern Territory of Australia.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan hopes that in the coming time, the Government of the Northern Territory of Australia will cooperate with Khanh Hoa Province in green and sustainable fields such as high-tech agriculture,  renewable energy and vocational training to meet labor demands of the two localities.
