Exciting Tet grapefruit crop

These days, the grapefruit gardens in Khanh Vinh district, the green-skin grapefruit capital of Khanh Hoa province, are all laden with fruits. Grapefruit farmers begin the Tet grapefruit harvest with excitement and joy. Grapefruit gardens which have beautiful, quality fruits with clear origins and brands... sell better than regular ones.

Duong Van Thuyen's family (Bac Song Giang village, Khanh Trung commune) has 7 hectares of grapefruit trees that are being harvested. On average, every month, he collects 5 tons of grapefruits to sell on the market, earning about 30 million VND after expenses. 

Farmer taking care of grapefruits for Tet

These days, Doan Van Huong in Khanh Thanh commune is busy bringing bales of grapefruits to supermarkets, agricultural stores, markets... inside and outside the province. “Today, I am picking grapefruits to deliver to customers in Phu Yen province. These days, many customers are starting to order grapefruits", he said. Price of grapefruits is also higher than last year. Specifically, grade 1 grapefruit is being purchased at the garden from 25,000 to 27,000 VND/kg; grade  2 grapefruit is popular at about 12,000 - 15,000 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Khanh Vinh district, up to now, the whole district has more than 600 hectares of grapefruit being harvested, including about 300 tons of grapefruits for Tet. 

Choosing grapefruits to buy

Visiting large gardeners, we saw that most farmers were qualified to care for grapefruits; cooperatives applied safe production processes like VietGAP, and investing in fertilizers, irrigation... 70 - 80% of the grapefruits here are good-looking.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Khanh Vinh district, the entire district has 142.6 hectares of grapefruits that meet VietGAP standards. Production applying safe production methods, meeting GAP and organic standards... is increasingly being participated and implemented by more and more farmers in the district, contributing towards green, sustainable agriculture. Grapefruit gardens with proven brands, quality and designs, are easy to sell fruits...
