Khanh Hoa Province's agriculture makes steady progress

According to a report from the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, Khanh Hoa rice growers received both good harvest and good prices. Thanks to the favorable weather, the areas of winter-spring, summer-autumn and seasonal rice crops across the province reached approximately 45,000 hectares. With each hectare of rice reaching over 65 quintals, the price of rice sometimes reached 9,000 VND/kg, the highest ever, bringing farmers an income of more than 30 million VND/ha/crop.

Durian, a specialty tree with very high economic value, also gained a new peak for the province's agriculture with an average yield of more than 10 tons/ha, the selling price of the best durians right in the garden was up to 70,000 – 80,000 VND/kg, nearly 3 times higher than many recent cases. In Khanh Son, the total output of durians in 2023 reached about 15,000 tons, an increase of more than 4,000 tons compared to the previous year. Durians earned farmers in this mountainous district about 900 billion VND. The fact that hundreds of hectares of Khanh Son durian trees have been granted planting area codes and this area is constantly being increased for official export to the Chinese market has helped durian prices increase.

Along with maintaining stable annual trees, in 2023, the whole province had 17,765 hectares of fruit trees, an increase of 0.63% compared to 2022. Mango, durian, grapefruit, banana... were still the main crops. The whole province has also converted nearly 340 hectares of ineffective rice to growing vegetable, corn, beans, potatoes and more than 274 hectares of annual and perennial crops to growing fruit trees such as mango, durian, custard apple, coconut...

Regarding breeding, compared to 2022, the number of livestock in 2023 increased slightly, meeting consumer demand in the province and being sold to some provinces. The total aquaculture area of the province was estimated at 4,840 hectares, about 1,000 hectares higher than the plan. Aquaculture output is estimated at nearly 18,000 tons, up 4.9% over the previous year. Along with over 100,000 tons of exploited aquatic products, an increase of 1.13% has contributed to increasing the export turnover of aquatic products in the entire province to 729 million USD...

According to leaders of Khanh Hoa Province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, the agriculture accounted for 11% of the province's economic structure; the growth rate of the agriculture increased by 4.35% over 2022. Of which, the agriculture grew by 3.61%, and aquaculture grew by 4.98%. These are exciting numbers, demonstrating steady development direction of the province’s agriculture. It is worth noting that the province's agricultural scale is not large as the general level of the country; The crop area, number of livestock, and aquaculture area are not too large. However, Khanh Hoa has endemic agricultural products that are highly appreciated by consumers, such as bird's nest, lobsters, snails, durians, garlic... With this characteristic, over the past years, Khanh Hoa agriculture focused on improving the value of agricultural products. The industry's key tasks in 2024 also focus on this issue, including improving farming quality, ensuring safe agricultural products brought to market, meeting quality and gradually develop processing industry.
