Towards sustainable lobster farming

On January 28, 2022, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 09 on building and developing Khanh Hoa province until 2030, with a vision to 2045, in which it is oriented to build Cam Ranh City as a tourism - logistics urban area; striving to become a urban area of type II by 2030. Right after that, Cam Ranh City developed an action program, implementation plan for each content, task, assignment and determination of responsibilities of each level, each agency, locality and unit. Cam Ranh City People's Committee worked with the Institute for Tourism Development Research under the Department of Tourism to advise and develop the Project on tourism development in Cam Ranh City until 2030, with a vision to 2045; contribute ideas and orient the local tourism development space appropriately, thereby identifying key tourism development areas to call for investment and develop tourism after approval. It is expected that the project will be completed in 2024, serving as a basis for promoting investment in locations with natural sea and island landscapes.

Talking to reporters, Ngo Huu Hien - Vice Chairman of Cam Ranh City People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cam Ranh Lobster Festival 2024 said that in order to develop aquaculture sustainably and in the right direction, on February 6, Cam Ranh City Party Committee issued Resolution No. 32 on strengthening the Party's leadership in the management of aquaculture activities in Cam Ranh Bay. After that, localities have made efforts to propagate to fishermen, determined not to let new cages arise. In the coming time, the city will clear the entire coastal water surface to implement the Cam Ranh Bay Urban Area Project with an area of over 1,200 hectares, contributing to changing the face of the urban area and coastal landscape to serve the daily needs of the people. Cam Ranh City People's Committee has also coordinated with businesses to test high-tech aquaculture (offshore farming using HDPE cages). The test results are remarkable with productivity reaching more than 150% compared to traditional marine farming; shrimp and fish products are of higher quality. This is the premise for the city to expand and deploy high-tech marine farming, aiming at sustainable development of lobster farming, ensuring conditions for traceability, serving lobster export, and bringing high economic value.
