Khanh Hoa Province::
Developing logistics into an important economic sector

Khanh Hoa Province People's Committee has just issued a Plan for developing logistics services in the province until 2025. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant departments and branches to carry out groups of tasks and solutions towards developing logistics services into an important economic sector of the province.

To deploy many solutions

Currently, the province has seaports serving mainly import and export of goods, including: Cam Ranh International Port (Cam Nghia Ward, Cam Ranh City), Cam Ranh Port (Cam Linh Ward, Cam Ranh), Bac Van Phong Port (Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District) and Nam Van Phong Port (Ninh Thuy Ward, Ninh Hoa Town). However, at present, these ports have not yet fully exploited their strengths, mainly serving the export of bulk goods and the import of raw materials, machinery and equipment for production.

According to the plan, in the coming time, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade will preside over and coordinate with the provincial Department of Education and Training, the provincial Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, the Vietnam Logistics Service Enterprise Association and educational institutions to research and develop human resources for logistics activities; coordinate with the Vietnam Logistics Service Enterprise Association to develop an annual logistics competitiveness index report. On that basis, the Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with the Department of Transport, the General Statistics Office and other departments, branches and sectors to implement solutions to improve the province's competitiveness each year. In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade will preside over and coordinate with the Department of Transport, the Provincial Customs Department, the Provincial Tax Department and related units to review and consider recommendations on adding border gates (seaports in the province) that are allowed to import cars under 16 seats to advise the Provincial People's Committee to propose competent authorities to consider and decide. Relevant units urgently conduct surveys, investigations, statistics, and assessments of import-export activities of enterprises in the province and neighboring provinces to have a basis for assessment and implementation of work calling on seaport enterprises in Khanh Hoa to work with shipping lines to propose support policies for enterprises participating in exporting and importing goods through seaports.

Le Huu Hoang - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that in order to meet the requirements of transport infrastructure for transporting large-tonnage goods, in the coming time, the Department of Transport must implement investment projects to build, upgrade, expand and renovate works and traffic routes connecting seaports. At the same time, research and propose policies and solutions to develop the province's transport infrastructure to support the development of logistics services in accordance with the geographical location and socio-economic characteristics of the province. The Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Planning and Investment to guide, inspect and supervise investors to accelerate the progress of establishing and implementing investment projects to build logistics infrastructure services, provide information on support policies and investment incentives in accordance with the law; preside over dialogue activities, remove difficulties for businesses, support innovation and improve capacity in the logistics sector.

Cam Ranh International Port oriented to become logistics service center

Currently, the province is implementing Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo on building and developing Khanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045; Resolution No. 42 of the Government promulgating the Action Program to implement Resolution No. 09, including the task of focusing on developing the logistics service industry in a diversified direction, with high knowledge and technology content and investing in and building a warehouse and logistics system. To implement this content, the provincial People's Committee issued a Plan for developing logistics services in the province to 2025 to develop logistics services into an important economic sector of the province; in particular, focusing on developing general ports, specialized for large-tonnage ships in Van Phong Bay and Cam Ranh Bay, creating a driving force to promote economic development in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions.

According to Le Huu Hoang, the province has oriented to develop Cam Ranh International Port into a major logistics service center of the province, the South Central - Central Highlands region as well as the whole country; at the same time, build an international transit port in Van Phong Economic Zone that can receive container ships with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEU. In the coming time, the province will focus on calling for and promoting investment in logistics service infrastructure projects according to the approved planning to develop logistics infrastructure; apply new technology in developing logistics services; improve the business environment, cut costs, and enhance competitiveness in providing logistics services of the province.

TRINH THANH TUNG - Deputy General Director of Cam Ranh Port Joint Stock Company: Since the beginning of the year, the company has cooperated with many service providers with transportation capacity and signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Quy Nhon Port in implementing chain services. In order to expand commercial activities and increase revenue beyond port operations, Cam Ranh Port has contacted AP Saigon Petro Joint Stock Company to sign a contract to become the official distributor of Saigon Petro lubricants in Cam Ranh City. In addition, the company has also proactively surveyed and evaluated container cargo output in the area. In mid-August 2024, the company coordinated with ICD Cam Ranh Joint Stock Company and Pacific Lines Company Limited to successfully operate a domestic container shipping route from SP-ITC International Container Port (Ho Chi Minh City) to Cam Ranh Port with a frequency of 1 trip/week. The reopening of this domestic container transport route is of great significance to the logistics service industry in Khanh Hoa, contributing to promptly meeting the transportation needs of production and import-export businesses in the province and the Central Highlands provinces.
