OCOP products in mountainous areas responding to green transformation

On the journey to develop into a small ecological urban area of mountains and forests, each person in Khanh Son district and Khanh Vinh district has done specific and practical things to make their land greener and cleaner. In the list of OCOP products two mountainous districts, most of them are clean, safe, deeply processed and increasingly sustainable crop products.

Perhaps there is no need to mention much about the famous yellow-fleshed durian product in Khanh Son land. Where the climate and soil conditions have favored this fruit with high economic value, it has its own unique characteristics in taste and deliciousness. That golden brand of Vietnamese agriculture has so far developed more than 2,600 hectares. Nearly 2/3 of which are being harvested with an average of 10 tons per hectare. Revenue from durian in the 2024 crop has exceeded 1,000 billion VND.

Ruby guava of farmer Khanh Vinh achieves 3-star OCOP product in 2024.

Khanh Son district is famous for durians. The district now has 2,600 hectares of growing durians. 2/3 of which are in harvest with 10 tons on average. Turnover of durians in 2024 has exceeded 1,000 VND billion.

When the One Commune One Product program was implemented, Khanh Son people thought of further upgrading their production, harvesting and distribution processes to bring OCOP products from durian to the market. Up to now, Khanh Son has had one 4-star OCOP product, that is Phuong Dai frozen durian of Khanh Son Ecological Investment Joint Stock Company, and 33 3-star OCOP products, including 20 durian products such as fresh durian, dried durian, frozen durian, durian ice cream, etc.

Nguyen Thi Vinh Hang - owner of Thanh Hung Enterprise - a large unit specializing in producing, processing and trading durian in Khanh Son affirmed: "We have formed a chain of links with local people to grow dozens of hectares of durian that meet VietGAP standards, supplying the market with hundreds of tons of fresh durian each year. At the same time, we invest in a modern machinery system, especially a deep-freezing system and freeze-drying technology to produce durian products that ensure the full retention of the characteristic flavor of Khanh Son durians.

According to Nguyen Quoc Dong - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, the OCOP program has been promoted from the district to the grassroots level; support policies for subjects participating in the program have been implemented synchronously and promptly, helping subjects have more resources to invest in OCOP products. Thanks to that, the district's OCOP products have made progress in quality, increasingly eye-catching designs, ensuring the conditions of food safety and hygiene, stamps, labels, product traceability, meeting market requirements... The effectiveness of the OCOP program for the local economy is very large, contributing to improving income and living standards for people in rural mountainous areas, effectively implementing economic criteria and production organization in the construction of new rural areas of the district.

Coming to the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh, the local OCOP products are somewhat more diverse. In addition to the main green-skinned grapefruit, in recent years, Khanh Vinh farmers have also continuously improved production skills, applied machinery and technology to bring to the market many types of quality agricultural products.

Thanh Hung dried durian is an outstanding OCOP product of Khanh Hoa Province.

Talking to us, Le Thi Kim Thanh, Director of Khanh Trung Green Agriculture Cooperative shared that after many years of nurturing and caring, in addition to green-skinned grapefruit, many other fruit trees have also grown lushly, producing quality products. As of 2024, the cooperative has 2 3-star OCOP products, which are mica star apple and ruby guava. These 2 types of fruit are grown together with many other types such as green-skinned grapefruit, coconut, rambutan, grapefruit, jackfruit, guava, pomegranate, cherry, cherry, durian, date palm... to create a 16-hectare garden surrounded by a cool stream, the plants are cared for using completely natural, organic methods, without using chemicals or chemical fertilizers to turn this place into an agricultural production place that adapts to green transformation according to the province's orientation.

Nguyen Van Thuan - Vice Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, said that in 2024, the whole district will have 18 products participating in the OCOP program. Up to now, the district-level OCOP council has completed the evaluation and classification. 10 products have achieved a 3-star OCOP score. This year's participating products are diverse and have high processing content such as green-skinned grapefruit, ruby guava, mica star apple, Thai jackfruit, ginger-flavored dried banana, medicinal incense.

According to the leaders of the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh, the OCOP program has made an important contribution to improving production and making agricultural products for local people. In the coming time, the district will pay special attention to further promoting and promoting trade, finding stable output for agricultural products in general and OCOP products in particular. Along with that are specific policies to encourage and further promote the participation of entities to improve both the quantity and quality of OCOP products.
