Khanh Hoa has many advantages in developing marine aquaculture. It has developed since the early 1990s and has soon played an important role in the socio-economic development of the province, especially in creating jobs, increasing income and improving the living of the coastal people. Khanh Hoa is one of the major marine farming centers in the country, with more than 140,000 cages, annual output reaching from 18,000 to 20,000 tons; key farming objects such as: Sea bass, cobia, yellowfin pompano, lobster... Khanh Hoa is a pioneering locality in developing high-tech marine farming as for many years, in the province, there have been a number of units and enterprises applying high-tech marine farming and bringing great efficiency such as: Australis Vietnam Seafood Co., Ltd., High-tech Marine Farming Center of Aquaculture Research Institute... The potential and advantages of developing high-tech marine farming of the province are also affirmed when Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo on building and developing Khanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and the action programs of the Government and the Provincial Party Committee to implement Resolution No. 09 all affirm the goal of strongly developing the marine economy in the direction of seafood farming, exploitation, processing, especially high-tech marine farming, friendly to the environment.

According to Nguyen Duy Quang - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has developed a pilot project on high-tech marine farming in Khanh Hoa for the Prime Minister's approval. This project was determined by the Provincial Party Committee to be new with a wide scope, involving many ministries and branches and a lot of work. However, after more than 2 years of construction, the pilot project for developing high-tech marine aquaculture in Khanh Hoa has been completed and approved by the Prime Minister for implementation. This is the first step in realizing the goal of developing high-tech marine aquaculture in the province. Khanh Hoa being selected to implement this pilot project will open up the future of developing high-tech marine aquaculture in the whole country.
The effective implementation of the pilot project for high-tech marine aquaculture in Khanh Hoa will ensure the goal of increasing productivity, value of the aquaculture industry and increasing income of marine farmers and other related organizations and individuals through job creation, improving socio-economic conditions, aiming to export seafood with high standards, ensuring food safety, meeting the needs of the domestic and export markets. Along with that is protecting the marine environment, aiming at sustainable marine economic development, gradually forming a marine farming area from 3 to 6 nautical miles, both ensuring marine economic development, reducing pressure on coastal marine farming and contributing to minimizing conflicts in development space between economic sectors in marine farming areas. In addition, it will contribute to implementing the goal in the Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister that by 2030, the proportion of the aquaculture sector will account for about 62% of the total agricultural structure of the province, of which aquaculture accounts for 40% of the total aquatic product output, about 60,000 - 62,000 tons.
It can be seen that the reality of high-tech marine farming of enterprises in Khanh Hoa over the past years and the results of the pilot model of high-tech marine farming in the sea of Cam Lap commune (Cam Ranh city) have confirmed that the application of high-tech marine farming is very effective. The province's launching of this project is an important first step in promoting the transition from traditional wooden cage marine farming to marine farming using new materials, integrating and applying technology to improve productivity and efficiency in the marine farming process; minimizing the environment; adapting to climate change...
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, the successful implementation of the pilot project on developing high-tech marine aquaculture is expected to make Khanh Hoa a model for coastal localities across the country to develop the marine aquaculture industry, making this industry truly a spearhead in the development of the fisheries economy in particular and the marine economy in general.
