Van Ninh: Quality of OCOP products improving

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in Van Ninh district is increasingly going into depth, many good quality products are participating in the program, gradually forming the value chain of key local products.

In 2024, the People's Committee of Van Ninh district proposed 38 products of 16 producers to participate in the OCOP program; one of which was re-evaluated due to the expiration of the 3-star OCOP rating, 2 products were upgraded from 3 stars to 4 stars and 35 products were registered to participate for the first time. However, during the process of selecting ideas, assessing production and business plans and surveying facilities, there were 34 products of 14 producers) remaining qualified for the evaluation and classification in 2024. To support the subjects participating in the program, in addition to propaganda, consulting and guidance, 13 producers with 30 products were supported with funding to complete the products according to regulations with a total cost of nearly 1.6 billion VND. Supports included designing packaging, product labels, registering codes, barcodes, electronic stamps, traceability systems; product testing; building websites and online sales; building product stories; building and applying advanced quality management systems (VietGAP, HACCP/ISO).

After a long preparation, the District People's Committee organized district-level assessment and classification for 34 products of 14 producers and proposed to participate in provincial-level assessment and classification for 15 products of 4 producers (reaching nearly 92% of the plan). According to the assessment and classification, 11 products of 3 producers in Van Ninh district were recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as 4-star OCOP products. At the district level, 22 products of 10 producers were recognized as 3-star OCOP products. Of which, the group of fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts has 5 products of 2 producers; the group of meat, seafood, eggs, fresh milk has 1 product of 1 producer; the group of processed foods from meat, eggs, milk, seafood, honey products, other honey and other agricultural and food products has 4 products of 3 producers; the group of tea products from other plants has 1 product of 1 producer; the coffee and cocoa group has 1 product of 1 producer; the other non-alcoholic beverage group has 4 products of 1 producer; the household and decorative handicraft group has 6 products of 2 producers.

Nguyen Thanh Son - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Ninh district said that up to now, in the district, there are 58 products recognized and ranked as OCOP 3 stars or higher (13 products achieved 4 stars and 45 products achieved 3 stars). Since being recognized as OCOP products with 3 stars or higher (products recognized and ranked as stars from 2023 and earlier), the establishments continued to implement their production and business plans. In 2024, the production revenue of the establishments increased by an average of about 20% compared to the previous year. Improving product quality and design

The People's Committee of Van Ninh district is developing a specific plan to effectively implement the OCOP program in 2025. The goal of the program is to continue to promote local strengths and potentials, and the creativity of the people to create high-quality products that meet the prescribed standards. In particular, the districy focuses on increasingly modern product packaging designs with clear traceability; contributing to the formation of product value chains, focusing on the district's key products.

To achieve this goal, the district continues to mobilize and support the upgrading and consolidation of products registered to participate from 2019 - 2024 that were not highly rated (1 - 2 stars) and products that have achieved (3 - 4 stars) to upgrade more. At the same time, the district encourage products with clear and stable raw material sources to participate in OCOP; upgrade, standardize, and complete at least 20 3-star OCOP products at the district level and 6 4-star OCOP products at the provincial level. The district also focuses on developing forms of production and business organization in the direction of increasing benefits for the community, contributing to the development of the rural economy in the direction of endogenous development and increasing value; improving the quality of human resources for state officials in the OCOP system (district, commune) and representatives of economic organizations participating in the program. Industries encouraged by the district to participate include: Fresh food (leafy vegetable products); processed food (fish cakes, dried fish, rice paper); spices (fish sauce); tea (herbal tea); non-alcoholic beverages (products processed from bird's nest); handicrafts and decoration (agarwood incense, agarwood jewelry, agarwood decorative art…).
