The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee jointly organized a conference in Nha Trang City on April 27 to summarize 5 years of implementing Project 1797 which focuses on mobilizing overseas Vietnamese to introduce and consume Vietnamese products and develop distribution channels for Vietnamese products abroad.
Present at the event were Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of Provincial People’s Committee; Tran Thu Mai, Member of Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Party Committee, Chairperson of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Agencies; and Le Huu Hoang, Member of Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Party Committee, Standing Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Provincial People’s Committee. The conference was also attended by representatives of central ministries and sectors and more than 200 overseas Vietnamese businessmen, representatives of domestic and foreign associations and business communities.

Bridge to bring Vietnamese goods abroad
According to the assessment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, overseas Vietnamese are not only an big channel for consuming and distributing domestic goods, but also play a consulting role, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to grasp international market tastes and standards and promote investment and technology transfer. Many overseas Vietnamese businessmen have become strategic partners, supporting domestic enterprises to improve production capacity, shift economic structure, develop high value-added industries such as: Electronic components, medical equipment, renewable energy, etc. After 5 years of implementation, Project 1797 has effectively utilized the resources of the overseas Vietnamese community, contributing to promoting exports, promoting culture and enhancing Vietnam's economic position. Vietnam's total import-export turnover increased from nearly 517 billion USD (in 2019) to more than 786 billion USD (in 2024). Vietnamese goods are increasingly present in major markets thanks to the connecting role of the overseas Vietnamese community.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that after 5 years of strong and comprehensive implementation, Project 1797 not only strongly promoted exports, one of the main growth drivers of the economy, but also contributed to conveying the image, culture and identity of the nation to a large number of international friends, thereby making an important contribution to the overall achievements in socio-economic development of the country. The success of the project is the result of the leadership of the Party and Government, the synchronous coordination of ministries, branches and localities and the efforts of the overseas Vietnamese community. In particular, overseas Vietnamese business associations, experts, and intellectuals have also played an effective role in connecting and supporting. In the context of many fluctuations in the world, maintaining stable export growth through the support of overseas Vietnamese is of special significance, contributing directly to the country's overall economic growth in 2025.
Khanh Hoa calls for the contribution of overseas Vietnamese
For Khanh Hoa, after 5 years of implementation, the project has brought positive results. Remittances have continuously increased, many key products such as: bird's nest, agarwood, seafood, coffee, textiles, agricultural products ... have penetrated deeper into demanding markets such as Europe, the US and Japan. In 2024, the province reached 22/22 socio-economic targets, GRDP reached 10.16% - ranking 7th in the country and 2nd in the North Central and Central Coast regions. Total export turnover reached over 2 billion USD, up 16.5% compared to the previous year.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan acknowledged that the overseas Vietnamese community has made many practical contributions to the homeland, from financial support, investment connection, technology transfer, human resource training to promoting the image of Khanh Hoa province and the country to the world. Activities such as supporting the Khanh Hoa Fisheries Development Support Fund, supporting Truong Sa island district, organizing seminars, promoting investment abroad... have shown the deep affection and responsibility of overseas Vietnamese to their homeland. Provincial leaders hope that overseas Vietnamese will continue to accompany and introduce products and industries of the province and the South Central region to the international market, connecting domestic enterprises with foreign partners.
According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan, Khanh Hoa is calling for support from overseas Vietnamese for key investment projects, especially in Van Phong Economic Zone, to effectively utilize the special mechanisms and policies of the Central Government, helping the province grow rapidly in the new period. Currently, Khanh Hoa has 112 FDI projects from 22 countries and territories, with a total registered capital of 3.96 billion USD, mainly in the fields of tourism, services, trade, processing and aquaculture. With more than 11,300 enterprises in operation, the province is ready to welcome the return of investment and contributions from overseas Vietnamese. The companionship of overseas Vietnamese will help enterprises in Vietnam in general, and Khanh Hoa in particular, integrate internationally, enhance competitiveness and realize the aspiration for development and strong growth in the new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.
In her closing remarks at the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that the consistent policy of the Party and Government is to identify overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community, an important factor contributing to strengthening the cooperative relations between our country and other countries in the world. With that spirit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continuously promote and improve the effectiveness of overseas Vietnamese affairs and citizen protection work. Foreign affairs and international integration will continue to be promoted with the highest effort to develop an open and favorable foreign situation, continue to enhance the country's position, increase intertwined interests with countries and partners to create the best conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and work abroad.
Within the framework of the conference, the discussion session on promoting overseas Vietnamese resources in promoting exports and developing distribution channels for Vietnamese goods abroad took place enthusiastically. Delegates analyzed the difficulties and challenges in bringing Vietnamese goods to the world and proposed many specific solutions to promote the role of overseas Vietnamese such as strengthening legal support, training domestic enterprises on international standards, connecting distribution networks.
