On the occasion of Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2013, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment associated with Nha Trang People’s Committee held mangrove forest planting in Dam Bay Island, Vinh Nguyen Ward, Nha Trang City recently.

 

Hundreds of young people from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Vinh Nguyen People’s Committee, Nha Trang Bay Management Board, Nha Trang Beautiful Bay Club, the Nature and Environment Protection Association, etc. eagerly took part in this meaningful activity.

 After a short launching ceremony, the members went to the mangrove forest planting area. In order to reach there, they had to walk 1 kilometer across a marshy ground, which exposed at low tide.

 The members got to work quickly as soon as reaching the destination.

Despite scorching sun, the members worked enthusiastically.

They planted mangroves, a kind of trees taken from Ninh Loc, Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa Province, appropriate with soild and climate of the province.

About tens of thousands of mangroves were planted on May 25, covering an area of 2 hectares.

Previously, this area was full of verdant mangroves, well-known for their adaptability in salt marsh. Each mangrove can be a place where dozens kinds of mollusk and amour live and reproduct. However, when cultivating this area, people narrowed the mangrove forest area to an alert level. At present, it is the empty ground when the tide ebbed.

Thanks to efforts for years, people have covered some areas with mangroves again. This is the annual meaningful activity of the organizations in Khanh Hoa Province, being carried out in Vietnam Sea and Island Week.
