Through more than 10 years, the western area of Nha Trang City has shifted from rural areas into a modern, bustling and densely populated area. The development is thanks to the provincial proper direction on expanding the city to the west to ease pressure on the city center.
Benefiting from investment in arterial roads, the area in the west of Nha Trang City has a lot of potentials for development. |
Years ago, especially after 2010, Nha Trang City started to face challenges due to increasing traffic congestion, deficiency of infrastructures and concentration of the majority of the urban population due to rapid urbanization. Therefore, provincial leaders considered the urban development planning to the west with the orientation to relocate administrative offices and educational institutions in the west of Nha Trang.
According to Nguyen Sy Khanh, Chairman of the Nha Trang City People’s Committee, responding to the province’s policy, many investors have developed some urban areas, namely VCN Phuoc Hai, My Gia, Le Hong Phong I, Le Hong Phong II, An Binh Tan and Hoang Long.
The formation of Cao Ba Quat – Cau Lung road, presently Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Phong Chau Street have paved the way for the expansion of the city to the west. Vo Nguyen Giap Street, 60m wide, connects Nha Trang with the new administrative center of Dien Khanh District, contributing to easing traffic congestion of the 23-10 Street and creating favorable conditions for investment in urban projects. The newly-built Phong Chau Street with a total length of nearly 3km, connects Le Hong Phong Street with urban and residential areas in the west.
In addition, Ring Road 2, which is under construction and Ring Road 3, which will be built soon, is expected to connect the city with areas in the west of Nha Trang. Thanks to the proper orientations of the provincial leaders, the entire western area of Nha Trang is well-developed with many modern urban areas and synchronous infrastructures, contributing to easing population pressure on the city center. Benefiting from investment in arterial roads, the area in the west of Nha Trang City has a lot of potentials for development.
According to the report of the Nha Trang City People’s Committee, the consulting unit is making a draft plan on adjusting and expanding the subdivision planning (scale 1/2000) in western Nha Trang, which is linked the city center via 3 main streets 23-10, Vo Nguyen Giap and Phong Chau. The total area under the adjustment planning is more than 1,393ha.
According to Nguyen Sy Khanh, the population density in the western area of Nha Trang has doubled over the past 10 years. Therefore, the adjustment planning is to ensure synchronous infrastructures and further promote the western area of Nha Trang in the future.
According to Tran Nam Binh, Director of the Department of Construction, in 2007, the Provincial People’s Committee made detailed planning of 1/2000 of the urban area in western Nha Trang. This urban area covers 2,032 ha located in the communes of Vinh Hiep, Vinh Thai, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Trung (Nha Trang City) and Dien An and Dien Toan (Dien Khanh District). In September 2012, the Prime Minister approved the master adjustment planning of Nha Trang City to 2025.
To effectively ease pressure on the city center, the Provincial People’s Committee has made a plan to expand the city to the west, creating a large land fund for the province for local socio-economic development.
The adjustment planning of the city to 2040 is about to be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval. The city expansion to the west is one of the key approaches to the promotion of the development of Nha Trang City and connection with Dien Khanh ecological urban center.
