Building kid-centered preschools

The implementation of the theme on building kid-centered preschools in Khanh Hoa Province in the period 2021-2025 has contributed to raising child care and education quality.

Creating cozy and friendly learning environment

Huong Sen Nursery School, Nha Trang City, a national standard school, level 2 is considered as the most beautiful and spacious nursery school in the province with classrooms harmoniously designed with playgrounds, gymnasiums, experiential corners, a library and green areas.

According to Principal Nguyen Thi Hong My, the school has held the Contest on Self-Made Teaching Devices & Toys with 108 Self-Made Teaching Devices & Toys winning prizes. Information technology has been proficiently applied in teaching. The school has fostered a genuine partnership between home and school learning, organized activities for children to build life skills, etc.

Teachers apply Montessori education methods at the program jointly organized by the Department of Education and Training and Nha Trang National Pedagogical College.

Dien Khanh Town Kindergarten, Dien Khanh District has developed experiential learning models, namely country market, gardening, learning about familiar products made from items available such as bamboo, leaves and sand; applied advanced educational methods for children to explore and develop creative skills.

Vanh Khuyen Kindergarten in Khanh Son District has made good use of items available in the locality to build models of houses on stilts, farming tools, agricultural produce for hands-on learning; used local ingredients in daily menus, etc. This is one of the 3 schools selected by the Department of Education & Training to be as a provincial-level model in the implementation of the theme “Building kid-centered preschools” representing schools in midland areas with average living standards and in disadvantaged areas. Besides, 21 schools are implementing district-level models in 8 districts and towns in Khanh Hoa.

According to Do Huu Quynh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, the implementation of the theme “Building kid-centered preschools” has helped teaching more flexible and creative with appropriate pedagogical methods and educational planning. Schools have also promoted the application of information technology in activities, fostered school-home partnerships in child care and education. In the past 2 years, the department has organized 18 professional development courses for 852 managing staff and 228 preschool teachers; cooperated with Nha Trang National College of Pedagogy to organize 5 professional development courses for teaching staff and administrators.

More concern needed

Besides achievements, according to the leader of the Department of Education & Training, there are some difficulties and challenges such as lack of infrastructures and facilities; limited budget, limited space for school grounds and educational activities, etc.

In order to continue effectively implement the theme "Building a child-centered preschool" in the coming time, according to Do Huu Quynh, the province needs to continue raising investment to improve school infrastructures and facilities; improving your recruitment efficiency to satisfy child care and education needs; developing professional development training to raise the training standards of preschool teachers according to the Education Law 2019; promote the socialization of education, etc. Besides, the Ministry of Education and Training should continue organizing training courses, seminars; hands-on and experiential activities, etc.

There are currently 205 nursery schools in Khanh Hoa with 100% implementing the nursery education curricula promulgated by the Ministry of Education & Training with full day classes.
