Enhancing first aid skills in community

Over the past years, Nha Trang City Red Cross has focused on first aid training in the community, especially among students, providing critical life skills and increasing public awareness of accident and injury prevention.

In late June, Nha Trang City Red Cross jointly with Nha Trang City Youth Union, Phuoc Tien Ward Red Cross held a program on drowning prevention and first aid training for more than 50 students. At the training course, students and young people were provided with water safety skills, including proper use of life jackets and first aid to keep themselves and others safe around water.

Phan Dang Nguyen Tran, Phuoc Tien Ward, said, “I get first aid instructions for emergencies to save life, including rescue breathing and chest compressions.” Chu Minh Phuong, Deputy Secretary of Nha Trang City Youth Union said, “The City Youth Union has focused on providing life skills, including drowning prevention and injury prevention for teenagers.”

Every May, the 2 agencies jointly build a training plan. This year, the summer steering boards in all communes and wards have developed plans on training in some communities wards and schools, namely Tan Lap, Phuoc Tien, Phuong Sai, Nguyen Thien Thuat High School, etc.

First aid is immediate care for those who get injured or ill to prevent the condition from worsening to promote recovery until full medical treatment is available. First aid knowledge and skills are to ensure the immediate care to be safe and effective.

According to Le Quoc Thinh, Chairman of Nha Trang City Red Cross, accidents and emergencies can happen at any time. It’s a part of our life skills that are essential to reduce these life-threatening situations. The City Red Cross focuses on first aid courses in the community to increase basic skills for students, hospital staff and many others.

Since the beginning of the year, Nha Trang City Red Cross has coordinated with organizations’ to organize 11 drowning first aid training courses for more than 1,000 people who are hotel and resort staff, students and Youth Union members.

The regular first aid training courses in the community held by the City Red Cross have contributed to enhancing first aid knowledge and skills, especially for students and teenagers, thus reducing the risk of accidents and injuries; raising public awareness of the importance of first aid training in the community.
