Voluntary blood donation expanding for life-saving emergencies

Over years, the blood donation campaign has widely expanded in Khanh Hoa Province, attracting the participation of more and more public servants, military forces, young people and residents, ensuring sufficient blood demand for life-saving emergencies and treatment.

Joining the program "Red Journey", blood donors have shown the tradition of mutual support of Vietnamese people. Recognizing the meaning and importance of blood donation, more and more people have responded to the humanitarian campaign to help provide blood possible for use wherever and whenever it is needed to save those in critical need of blood.

In response to the Red Journey 2023 held in Nha Trang City in early July, as many as 1,000 public servants, military forces and students in Khanh Hoa donated blood with more than 800 units of blood collected. Student Pham Ba Nghia, Nha Trang University said, “Blood donation is a noble act that helps save lives. My brother and I have joined the program. This is the third time I have donated blood.”

In Cam Lam District, many public servants and residents have got engaged in blood donation. Since the beginning of the year, the district has organized 2 blood donation campaigns with the participation of more than 500 people, giving nearly 350 blood units. Nguyen Hai Nguyen, Chairperson of Cam Lam District Red Cross said, "Besides innovation in propaganda for blood donation, the achievements are thanks to much support and high consensus from local authorities, agencies, mass organizations and residents".

According to Tran Nhat Luan, Secretary of Cam Lam District Union, in order to urge union members and young people to join the campaign, the union's cadres must set an example. He has donated blood 36 times.

According to Khanh Hoa Steering Board for Blood Donation, for the first 6 months, Khanh Hoa has organized 41 blood donation propaganda sessions, collecting as many as 10,600 units of blood, achieving nearly 49% of the year’s plan.

Luu Thi Bich Huong, Vice-Chairperson of the Provincial Red Cross, Chief of the Office of Khanh Hoa Steering Board for Blood Donation said that since early this year, the steering board has provided constancy for the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan to launch the blood donation campaign with specific responsibilities assigned to the steering boards of each localities and agencies.

Blood donation programs have run as scheduled. Together with propaganda boost, the Steering Board for Blood Donation has built and strengthened blood donation clubs, including clubs for blood types A, B, O, Rhesus Factor (Rh), etc. as well as honored organizations and individuals for their contribution to the campaign.

Blood donation is a great service and a noble cause to society. Blood donated helps save lives of those in critical need of blood. Therefore, the provincial steering board organizes ceremonies to honor blood donors annually, according to Luu Thi Bich Huong.
