Autogate opens at Cam Ranh International Airport

Along with 4 international airports nationwide, Cam Ranh International Airport officially operated automatic immigration gates (Autogate) on August 15, facilitating the entry of travelers and speeding up immigration procedures.

According to Colonel Pham Quoc Dung, Deputy Chief of Cam Ranh International Airport Border Gate Police, the Autogate system consists of two barriers that will open if the citizen's identity is verified. The first one requests passengers to scan the page of personal information on their passports and boarding passes. The second one is where passengers have their portrait photos taken and fingerprints scanned.

Nguyen Vu Ba Hung and Tran Thi Hong Nhung were among the first travelers having gone through the Autogate at Cam Ranh International Airport. Back from a tour to Malaysia, they were so happy that Autogate is operational at Cam Ranh Airport like other countries where they had been to like S.Korea, Japan and Malaysia. The Autogate saved them much time waiting. It took them just 30 seconds for the procedures to be completed.

According to Le Thi Hong Minh, Director General of Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company, August 15, 2023 marked a milestone in the progress at the airport when the Autogate system came into operation. The Autogate system contributes to enhancing convenience and time-efficiency at Cam Ranh International Airport and thus promoting the destination of Vietnam.

In the first stage, immigration via Autogate is only for Vietnamese citizens who have successfully roistered for using Autogate. Travelers holding chip-based passports need not registered for using Autogate.

For departures, the Autogate is accessible to Vietnamese citizens with diplomatic and official passports, along with those possessing APEC business travel cards or serving as cabin crew members.

The Autogate has not been applied yet for the entry of foreign passengers, and the service is only applicable for the departure of foreigners if they possess valid residence cards or temporary residence cards issued by authorized agencies of Vietnam.

The entire process takes about 30 seconds. The Autogate application helps save time completing immigration procedures required as well as ease queues and prevent passenger congestion, especially during high-peak periods.

After 2 years of the first phase, the Ministry of Public Security will continue expanding the use of Autogate to all immigration activities.
