Beautiful homeland artworks on conical hats

With the desire to introduce idyllic stories and images of Nha Trang  City to people from all over the world, Song Concept Co., Ltd. has just organized a drawing competition on conical hats themed "Nha Trang in your eyes”.

Living in a foreign country since a young child and returning to work in Vietnam since 2008, Nguyen Lanh, 40, the founder of Song Concept Co. located on the 5th floor, Gold Coast building, 01 Tran Hung Dao, Nha Trang City cherished a dream to bring stunning experience about Vietnamese culture. “I love conical hats. I find that all Vietnamese women are beautiful with conical hats. That’s the reason why I decided to organize the competition from August 2 to August 24. Competitors were required to design and decorate conical hats, using watercolors, oil paints, paper collages, fresh/dry flowers, beads, etc., featuring the images of the land and people of Nha Trang,” she said.

All entries show the love for the sea.

The contest drew the participation of nearly 20 artists and art-lowers aged 12 or above. With skillfulness and deep love for the sea, they created vivid and meaningful images of Nha Trang homeland. Through the work "Flowers of the Sea", the youngest contestants named Nguyen Hoang Minh Hue, 16, and Tran Khanh Bui Mai, 13, expressed their special feelings for conical hats.

Minh Hue often wears conical hats when traveling with her family abroad because she loves to show the beauty of Vietnamese culture to the world.

Mai has cherished a dream to open a shop selling conical hats that she herself designed and decorated. "Hue and I have posted our drawings of conical hats to introduce to foreigners so that when traveling to Vietnam, they will buy and wear conical hats," Mai said.

With passion for painting for nearly 13 years, Nguyen Huu Chien, 37, a drawing teacher at an art workshop (25E Tan An, Phuoc Hai Ward, Nha Trang City) created the artwork ‘Nha Trang Diary’, featuring Tram Huong Tower, kids flying kites, tourists taking a cyclo tour in Nha Trang City.

“I used acrylic paint with no gloss added to prevent yellowing. This color is also water-resistant, so it is durable and easy to clean. It takes about five minutes for the painting to dry out in the sun before use,” he said.

According to Artist Bao Tran, the Judge of the competition, most of the entries show the love for painting by decorating conical hats with unique images of Tram Huong Tower, Ponagar Temples, Long Son Pagoda, Nha Trang cuisine or fishing at sea.

The first prize went to the work "Nha Trang seen from lotuses". 7 out of about 20 works were selected to be displayed at the traditional booth area at Song Concept Co. “The competition is a great way for amazing and meaningful artworks of hats to be created to introduce to tourists in Nha Trang City," said Nguyen Lanh.
