Keeping forests greener

Although illegal deforestation and forest encroachment in Khanh Vinh District, Khanh Hoa Province have decreased remarkably, some forests have remained at high risk, especially those managed by Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company, Ltd.  Khanh Vinh District People's Committee has set out regulations on coordination among forest owners, agencies and localities in order to better protect forests.

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has worked with Khanh Vinh District authority several times on measures to tackle illegal deforestation, strengthen forest management and protection, helping reduce deforestation and forest encroachment.

According to Nguyen Van Hao, Director of Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company, in order to reduce illegal deforestation, since the beginning of the year, the company has maintained dozens of permanent forest protection checkpoints and patrols in high-risk areas.

Currently, illegal deforestation on Khanh Le - Lam Dong pass, Khanh Thuong, Giang Ly... has decreased. However, there are still cases of forest encroachment for farming. According to Khanh Vinh Forest Protection Unit, some places still at high risk of forest encroachment are in Son Thai, Khanh Thuong, Khanh Phu, Khanh Thanh, Giang Ly, etc.

In order to improve the efficiency of forest management and protection, Khanh Vinh District People's Committee has issued regulations on coordination among the forest owner unit, Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company, the Forest Protection Unit, police and the 8 People's Committee of the communes of Son Thai, Giang Ly, Khanh Thuong, Lien Sang, Cau Ba, Khanh Thanh, Song Cau and Khanh Phu.

According to the leader of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, for the coordination regulations to be effectively implemented, specific solutions and plans in preventing illegal logging transportation and purchase of forest products; forest encroachment help improve the efficiency of forest management and protection...

According to Nguyen Van Thanh, Chief of Khanh Vinh Forest Protection Unit, to implement the coordination regulations, Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company, agencies and People's Committees of communes are required to take drastic measures in preventing illegal deforestation and forest encroachment, illegal trade and transportation of illegally produced commodities.

In order to well implement the coordination regulations, Khanh Vinh District People's Committee requires relevant units and localities to regularly exchange information on forest management and protection, and maintain close coordination in inspection, supervision and investigation for effective solutions to minimize the risk of deforestation and forest degradation.
