Provincial Road 6 to be upgraded

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just assigned the Department of Transport to implement the Resolution of the Provincial People's Council approving in principle the project on upgrading the Provincial Road 6 (section 2). This will be a key strategic link between the National Highway, the provincial road and the North-South Motorway to the east.

The Provincial Road 6, section 2, is more than 15.8km long, starting at the intersection of the existing Provincial Road 6, section 1 and the inter-commune road Ninh Than - Ninh Trung – Ninh Thuong, Ninh Hoa Town, and ends at the intersection with the coastal road from Van Luong Commune, Van Ninh District to Ninh Hoa Town. According to the plan, the road meets the Provincial Road 7, the National Highway 1, Van Phong - Nha Trang Motorway and a high-speed railway (currently under investment study).

The existing Provincial Road 6 (section 1) is connected with the Provincial Road 6 (section 2).

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation, the new route will connect the western area of ​​Ninh Hoa with Van Hung Commune (Van Ninh); connecting the National Highway 26 with the National Highway 1 along with the provincial road network in the region, including the Provincial Road 6, Provincial Road 7 and Provincial Road 8 so it will help reduce traffic on the National Highway 1 running through Ninh Hoa.

The new route will shorten the existing travel from Dien Khanh and Khanh Vinh when taking the Provincial Roads 5 and 8 and from the Dak Lak Province and Ninh Sim Commune, Ninh Tay, Ninh Hoa, taking the Provincial Road 26 and from neighboring areas to the north and vice versa.

In addition, the construction is considered as a step towards the land fund development, socio-economic growth, facilitating daily life in areas along the route, including in the communes of Ninh Thuong, Ninh An and Ninh Son (Ninh Hoa) and Van Hung (Van Ninh).  Along with the development of Van Phong Economic Zone, this route promises to build a comprehensive and convenient traffic network both in the area and create links among key economic and tourism regions. namely Van Phong, Dai Lanh, Nha Trang, Ninh Hoa, Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh, Dak Lak and so on.

Therefore, the investment in upgrading the Provincial Road 6, section 2 is essential as a step towards improving traffic network in accordance with planning orientation, in line with the socio-economic development strategies mentioned in Resolution No. 42 dated March 21, 2022 by the Government promulgating the Government's action plan to implement the Resolution No. 09 by the Politburo on construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045.

The Provincial People's Council approved the project in principle last July. Specifically, the project includes the upgrade and renewal of the Provincial Road 6, section 2, more than 15.8km, partly in Van Ninh and Ninh Hoa. The main route is more than 14.4km with 2 intersections with the National Highway 1 with a total length of 1.44km.

According to the plan, the road-bed is 9m wide. The total investment is expected to be more than VND875 billion from the State budget. The implementation period is from 2023 to 2027.

The Department of Transport is collecting opinions and suggestions to provide consultancy for the Provincial People's Committee to assign a construction and site clearance sub-project investor.
