Xom Bong Bridge to open to traffic Sep.20

Xom Bong Bridge construction is being accelerated to be completed and put into service on September 20, 2023, helping reduce traffic volumes across Tran Phu Bridge, ease congestion and facilitate travel in Nha Trang City.

On August 17, the first beam connecting the two spans marked the official joining of Xom Bong Bridge. Bui Xuan Gia, Vinh Hai Ward, Nha Trang City excitedly said, “The bridge joining had been long-waited by city dwellers. Hopefully, the bridge will be put into use soon.”

As planned, 8 beams will be completed to connect 2 spans of the bridge in 3 days. According to Tran Van Nghia, Assistant Manager of Xom Bong Bridge project, despite some obstacles, including geographic challenges and limited execution site space, the project is going smoothly thanks to great support from local authorities, especially the Provincial People's Committee and Nha Trang City People's Committee to make sure the site clearance complete for the construction.

According to the plan, the contractor will finish the construction of the bridge deck on August 25 and basically complete the remaining items, including lighting, rails and other traffic safety features by September 2. The construction evaluation will be followed so that the bridge will open to traffic on September 20.

According to Hoang Ngoc Lan, Executive Deputy Director of Xom Bong Bridge Project Management Board, Xom Bong Bridge was officially joined on August 17; however, the remaining workload is still high. Therefore, the board is to maximize human resources with 3 full-day shifts to accelerate construction in order to meet the progress.

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, the completion of Xom Bong Bridge construction will help alleviate travel pressure across Tran Phu Bridge, ease traffic obstruction and facilitate travel from the north to and back from the city center. The work items have been basically completed.

The new bridge is designed to be nearly 330m long and 19m wide with 4 lanes, 6m downstream from its old location. The project is invested by the Ministry of Transport, implemented by the Project Management Board 2 and executed by the partnership contractor of Samwhan Corporation and CIENCO4. The total estimated cost for the bridge construction is VND250 billion.
