Conveying inspiring messages against smoking

On September 29, Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union organized the final round of the 2023 knowledge competition on the Tobacco Control Law and Initiatives on Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Tobacco, delivering meaningful messages against smoking.

The preliminary round taking place virtually from September 20 had 10 participating teams representing Youth Union affiliations in Khanh Hoa Province. The 5 best teams selected for the final round included Van Ninh District Youth Union, Nha Trang City Youth Union, Ninh Hoa Town Youth Union, Nha Trang University Youth Union and Nha Trang National College of Pedagogy Youth Union.

The final round included greeting, knowledge and initiative performances. In the greeting show, many teams showcased their acting and musical skills through anti-smoking propaganda related to the Tobacco Control Law, smoking sensation methods, conveying meaningful and profound messages, including “Prevent smoking before it kills you” by Ninh Hoa team. “Reject smoking today or regret it later” by Nha Trang University team, etc. In the knowledge category, each team answered 10 multiple-choice questions about the Tobacco Control Law; smoking bans, fines, etc. In the final round, the teams showed many good initiatives on anti-smoking propaganda, especially the Van Ninh’s idea of ​​making clips about tobacco use harms on social media.

The first prize is awarded to Van Ninh District Youth Union team.

Ninh Hoa Youth Union team also had the idea of ​​ posting clips of those who have successfully quit smoking saying about the harmful effects of tobacco use. Nha Trang Youth Union team performed a pantomime of a young person being tempted to smoke finally dies young of a disease caused by smoking, leaving great grief and misfortune to the bereaved. The teams brought many meaningful messages and initiatives to promote the communication approaches to tobacco prevention and control.

Nguyen Thi My Truc, Nha Trang University team said, “We would like to help young people understand about serious harmful effects of e-cigarettes on themselves and people around.”  According to Vo Quang Huy, Nha Trang City Youth Union team, through the competition, he had more skills and knowledge for tobacco prevention and control propaganda in his neighborhood.

According to Trinh Ngoc Hiep, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, the participating teams were well-prepared for the competition, bringing impressive propaganda messages. Some also showed practical initiatives that can be applied in reality in the near future.

"The Youth Union at all levels will consider deploying practical initiatives to promote the proactive role of Youth Union members and young people in tobacco control," said Tran Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union.

The organizing board awarded 1 first prize, 2 second prizes and 2 third prizes. The first prize went to Van Ninh District Youth Union team.
