11th Golden Steering Wheel Awards

The "Golden Steering Wheel" Awards is annually organized by the National Traffic Safety Committee to honor drivers and transport businesses with good conduct and safe driving.

The 2023 eleventh Golden Steering Wheel Awards is themed "Respecting the laws to develop a traffic safety culture" held by the National Road Safety Committee jointly with other relevant agencies to commend drivers and transport businesses with contributions to ensuring traffic safety and order, raising public awareness of road safety, traffic law compliance and traffic accident prevention in an effort to road crash by 5 - 10% in 2023.

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, Standing Deputy Chief of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the Golden Steering Wheel Awards highlight the roles and responsibilities of transport businesses and drivers in ensuring traffic order and safety and responding to the Year of Traffic Safety 2023.

This serves as a platform for drivers and transport businesses to share their experience as well as show their roles and responsibilities for traffic safety. The Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has issued many documents asking relevant agencies to urge eligible businesses to submit applications for the awards.

Reportedly, there are more than 3,000 transport businesses in the province. However, no transport businesses have applied for the 2023 Golden Steering Wheel Awards so far. Ngo Van Dinh,  Chairman of Khanh Hoa Automobile Transport Association confirmed this is a prestigious award but some enterprises have difficulties due to a lack of time, personnel and budgets to prepare for the participation in the event.

The 11th Golden Steering Wheel Award ceremony is expected to be held in Hanoi in December, broadcast live on Vietnam Television. The Provincial Traffic Safety Committee has requested the Department of Transport to direct transport businesses to disseminate the awards to drivers and travel businesses; review registration documents of transport businesses that meet 2023 Golden Steering Wheel Award eligibility criteria; Khanh Hoa Auto Transport Association to coordinate and direct transport business units to propagate the awards to drivers and transport staff.

The applications for the awards must be sent to the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee before 17:00 on November 6, 2023. The awards are open to all drivers and transport businesses.

To be eligible for the 2023 awards, drivers must meet the following requirements, including not causing traffic accidents and being subject to fines in 2023; not causing serious traffic accidents in the last 3 years (2021, 2022, 2023) for individuals; and not causing serious traffic accidents, ownership of at least 20 vehicles; 100% of its vehicles installed with GPS trackers, etc. for businesses.
