Focusing on life skill education

Life skill education has been focused at schools, contributing to developing students' qualities and abilities towards educational innovation.

On the morning of October 23, the school flag meeting on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Resistance War (October 23, 1945 - 2023) was organized by students of Class 9/1 at Au Co Junior High School, Nha Trang City.

After a traditional flag-raising ceremony, students were asked to organize activities, including a talk with veterans of Phuoc Tan Ward (Nha Trang City) together with raising questions for students to answer and having musical performance. The change in the way the event was held gained much attention and triggered students' interest and motivation.

According to Tran Thi Thanh Huyen, Vice-Principal of Au Co Junior High School, since the 2022 - 2023 academic year, the school has innovated flag meetings by having each class take turns to organize various themed activities, including quizzes, group games, art performance and so on based on the school's general extracurricular program to bring some change and inspiration. This method also helps build students’ confidence, coordination skills and public speaking skills; as well as provides an opportunity for them to demonstrate talents and review lessons better. Besides, the school also regularly organizes a wide variety of extracurricular activities to enhance life skill education.

According to Le Dinh Thuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, life skill education is included in the evaluation criteria for schools. In recent times, many schools have developed life skill education with many innovations in content and forms suitable to actual conditions.

Some nursery and primary schools have used life skill practice textbooks by Huynh Van Son or cooperated with life skill training centers and foreign language centers to teach aerobics, music, fine arts, Math and science subjects in English, commutative English, etc.

At high schools, life skill education is integrated in other main subjects, in class and school meetings; extracurricular activities; teamwork, tours to historical vestiges, clubs, etc. In addition, many schools have built the emulation movement "friendly schools, active learners" with practical activities such as garden-based learning, environmental clean-up; school radio programs on traffic safety, social evil prevention, fire fighting, etc.

Life skill education is designed to achieve the goal of all-round development and achievements, helping students to become more aware of the changes in life and society around them, hone their skills, know how to keep themselves safe and apply the knowledge they have learned into practice.

According to Le Dinh Thuan, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has requested schools to provide life skill education based on specific conditions, integrate life skill education in subjects; continue innovating life skill education with various activities and related materials added to the library; and effectively organize creative and educational experience activities associated with local production and promotion of landscapes in Khanh Hoa.
