Project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 26 construction progress accelerated

Contractors are mobilizing maximum machinery and human resources, taking advantage of sunny days to speed up the construction progress of the project to renovate and upgrade the National Highway 26, an uninvested section running through the province. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in August 2024.

In September 2021, the Ministry of Transport issued a document on the project amendments, requesting Vietnam Road Administration, Project Management Board 5 to consider the adjustment of the project scope and scale in accordance with the expected capital allocation.

In April 2023, the project opened bidding to select a construction organization. The Ministry of Transport assigned Project Management Board 5 as the investor. The investor started the construction in mid-June 2023.

According to Tran Binh Quy, Project Executive Officer, Project Management Board 5,  after about 4 months of implementation, the project has completed the construction of the road foundation and 3 bridges on the route.  The project has been 35% complete. The asphalt pavement installation is expected to begin at the end of October to ensure to project progress.

Around 100 engineers and workers are always present at the construction site. The supervision consultants closely supervise the construction process to promptly resolves arising problems to ensure the construction progress and quality. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in August 2024,

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, the rainy season is coming, so the investor needs to ask contractors to urgently accelerate the construction, especially on road foundation, bridges, culverts and ditches; and take advantage of favorable weather to speed up construction to make up for days missed due to the rain. When the project is completed, it will facilitate travel; ensuring convenience and safety, contributing to the socio-economic development in the province in particular and the region in general.

The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 26 has a total route length of 15.68km with the starting point at Km15 + 350, in Ninh Sim Commune (Ninh Hoa Town) and the endpoint is at Km31 + 255 (administrative boundary between Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak provinces).

The road section running through Ninh Sim Commune center remains unchanged compared with the existing condition; The remaining sections have a roadbed width of 12m and a road surface width of 11m with 2 lanes; Particularly, the section through the challenging Phuong Hoang Pass, about 5km, has a roadbed width of 9m, the road surface width of 8m with 2 lanes; The size of the bridges is equal to that of the roadbed.
