Developing transport infrastructures in mountainous areas

In recent years, transport infrastructures in the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh have much developed to facilitate travel and provide a considerable stimulus to local socio-economic development.

The Provincial Road 9 leading to the Khanh Son District center has been concreted and widened from 3.5m to 5.5m. In 2023, the Department of Transport has invested in repairing many roads with a total cost of more than VND10 billion. In addition, To Hap - Son Binh and Ba Cum Nam are under frequent maintenance with annual upgrade and repair. According to statistics, in 2023, the transport sector has provided consultancy for the Provincial People's Committee to invest more than VND25 billion in road repair and upgrade, including the construction of Chi Chay Bridge (Son Trung Commune) in Khanh Son District.

Khanh Vinh District is more convenient in transportation with the National Highway 27C (Nha Trang - Da Lat road) running through the area. The transport sector has invested in upgrading 3 provincial roads in the area, including the Provincial Road 8, Provincial Road 8B and Provincial Road 2. These are the main inter-district roads connecting Khanh Vinh with neighboring localities.

The Provincial Highway 9 runs through Ba Cum Bac Commune, Khanh Son District.

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport,  in the past 5 years, thanks to the concern of the provincial leaders, the transport sector has provided consultancy for the Provincial People's Committee to develop transportation networks in mountainous areas, creating motivation for socio-economic development in the two localities. All roads leading to commune centers have been concreted and asphalted. Arterial traffic routes have been upgraded and expanded. Every year, the transport sector invests VND30 - 35 billion in traffic infrastructure repair, upgrade and development in the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh.

Especially, the resolution on investment policy for the road project from the National Highway 27C to the Provincial Road DT.656 in Khanh Hoa Province, connecting with Lam Dong Province and Ninh Thuan Province was passed at the 15th National Assembly’s 5th Session on June 20. The project is to concretize the development goals of Khanh Hoa Province under Resolution No. 09 by the Politburo on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045.

Accordingly, the project will contribute to improving the transportation system connecting the two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh; creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development in the two mountainous districts in particular and the whole province in general; increasing traffic connectivity with Ninh Thuan and Lam Dong provinces; ensuring national defense and security; and patrols for forest control, management and protection.

The project has an investment capital scale of about 56.9km of level III mountainous road with 2 lanes at a designed speed of 60km/h (the section through challenging terrains at 40km/h). The total investment of the project is about VND1,930 billion, including central and local budget capital. The project implementation period is from 2023 to the end of 2027. In addition, in 2023, the province will invest in the construction of 3 bridges on the Provincial Road 8B with a total investment of about VND400 billion.

According to Van Ngoc Huong, Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee, 52km of the National Highway, 63km of the provincial road and more than 88km of village road (inter-district) run through Khanh Vinh District. Thanks to the provincial leader’s concern, the district's transportation infrastructures have much improved, facilitating travel, contributing to local socio-economic development. Especially, the construction of a road connecting Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh districts is expected to create more convenience for trade and tourism connection and cultural exchange between the two localities.
