Agreement reached on preliminary proposal for Nha Trang - Da Lat motorway project

The People's Committees of Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa provinces held a conference in Da Lat City on November 2 on the investment in the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong motorway project.

The event was presided over by Tran Duc Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; and Tran Van Hiep, Deputy Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Also present at the event were Vo Ngoc Hiep, Vice-Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee; and Tran Hoa Nam, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee.

At the conference, the design consulting unit gave 3 proposal options for the project. After research, the plan of a route running parallel to the National Highway 27C with Nha Trang - Da Lat section, 81.5km long and the Da Lat - Lien Khuong section, 18km long, was chosen for proposal.

This plan has the shortest way with the lowest total investment of about VND34,000 billion with 4 lanes. It includes Nha Trang - Da Lat section with a total capital of about VND19,700 billion and the Da Lat - Lien Khuong section, more than VND4,400 billion. The project is invested under public-private-partnership (PPP) and a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract funded by the State. The route runs parallel to the National Highway 27C with a distance of 1 to 7km, conveniently connected to the existing transportation system and supporting travel in case of landslides on the National Highway 27C in the rainy and stormy seasons.

Regarding investment scale, the research scope covers the entire Nha Trang - Lien Khuong route to ensure synchronous connection with Dau Giay - Tan Phu - Bao Loc - Lien Khuong motorway.

However, due to current transportation needs and the feasibility for the BOT project, the section Nha Trang - Da Lat will be invested in the immediate future. Accordingly, the Nha Trang - Da Lat Motorway project has a starting point at Km0 intersecting with the Nha Trang - Cam Lam Motorway (in Dien Tho Commune, Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa Province); and the end point at Km81+500 (Darahoa intersection, Ward 12, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province). The total construction length is about 81.5km; including 44km through Khanh Hoa Province and about 37.5km through Lam Dong Province.

The Nha Trang - Da Lat motorway will help ease the traffic burden on the National Highway 27C.

The leaders of the two provinces agreed to propose the investment in the Nha Trang - Lien Khuong Motorway project with the section connecting Nha Trang and Da Lat, 4 lanes, about to be built in the immediate future. This is a strategic route, playing an important role in national defense and security as well as socio-economic development.

Lam Dong Province will coordinate closely with Khanh Hoa Province as an authority to propose the project to make procedures for proposing the investment to competent authorities. Regarding the project alignment, the leaders of the two provinces asked the consulting unit to continue conducting field surveys; and relevant departments and agencies to soon provide consultancy related to the project.
