Environmental education to raise awareness and take action

Recently, schools have promoted environmental protection propaganda and education, developing students' good habits and contributing to keeping a clean, green and beautiful environment.

With the support of volunteers and local people in field surveys and mangrove propagules, officials, teachers and more than 150 students of iSchool Nha Trang together with Nha Trang University have launched a mangrove-planting campaign in Tan Dao Village (Ninh Ich Commune, Ninh Hoa Town). Hundreds of mangrove seedlings were cultivated by students.

Student Ngo Le Phu, Class 11B2 excitedly said, "This is an interesting and meaningful experiential activity. It helps us understand the benefits of mangrove forests in reducing storm surges and serving as a defense against flooding and erosion to protect our environment. I become more responsible for preserving and protecting the environment."

iSchool Nha Trang students join mangrove cultivation.

According to Pham Huu Binh, Principal of iSchool Nha Trang, this is the school’s first afforestation campaign to plant a total of 5,000 mangrove trees in response to the Prime Minister's project on the cultivation of 1 billion trees and protection and development of coastal forests in adaptation to climate change and green growth promotion in the period 2021 - 2030, contributing to raising students' awareness of mangrove ecosystem and marine environmental protection.

To develop good habits of environmental protection through practical activities, Nguyen Hien Junior High School (Cam Lam District) has got students engaged in school clean-up and garden care; promoted environmental education, launched a tree-planting campaign; organized recycling competitions, etc. During the "Green Sunday" campaign, Nguyen Trai High School (Ninh Hoa Town) joined clean-up and environmental protection efforts in some public areas; tree cultivation around the school and at 16-7 Park.

Currently, environmental education has been promoted through curricular and extracurricular programs. In particular, schools have integrated this content into subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Technology, Geography, Civics, Science, Nature and Society.

Many schools have also organized extracurricular programs to raise awareness against plastic waste; organized "Green Sunday to join hands for the environment", trash-for-plant exchange and tree cultivation; organized environment-themed painting contests, etc. In the annual green environment contests and science and technology contests, many high school students proposed ideas to solve environmental pollution.

According to Le Dinh Thuan, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, to promote environmental education efficiency, it is essential to involve students in such daily activities as disposing of trash properly, saving water, reducing the use of single-use plastic, contributing to promoting responsible and green living among young generations.
