Khanh Hoa Department of Transport is making procedures to approve the contractors of the project on widening and innovation of 16 curves on the Provincial Road 9. The work is expected to be completed in 2024.
The Provincial Road 9 is 56.3km long, 6.5m - 26m wide, connecting the National Highway 1 running through Cam Ranh City with Khanh Son District. Basic road repair and innovation have been made over the past years to ensure traffic safety and boost socio-economic development in Khanh Son. However, there are many sharp bends on the route, making it difficult for the movement of container carriers while there is a high demand for the transportation of agricultural and forestry products from Khanh Son.

According to Ta Quoc Phong, Chairman of Son Binh Commune People's Committee (Khanh Son District), currently, the whole commune has about 540ha of durians with an average output of about 2,600 to 3,000 tons per year. All of the produce must be transported on the Provincial Road 9. However, the fact that container carriers cannot run safely on this route increases costs for farmers.
In order to facilitate the movement of large vehicles on the Provincial Road 9, small-radius curves need renovation and widening. Although the Department of Transport regularly checks and improves the traffic safety system at the above small-radius curve locations, there remain risks due to challenging terrains. Therefore, it is essential to widen some curves on Khanh Son Pass to facilitate travel and improve traffic safety.
The renovation and widening of curves on the Provincial Road 9 will meet current and increasing travel demands. Especially, the Provincial Road 9 plays an important role in the economic development and social security in Cam Lam and Khanh Son districts; meeting the travel and goods transportation needs.
In June 2023, the Provincial People's Committee approved the investment project on the expansion and renovation of some curves on Khanh Son Pass. Accordingly, 16 road curves will be widened and renovated with an estimated land area of more than 30,700m2. The project has a total capital of more than VND29 billion. The Department of Transport is making procedures for selecting contractors to implement the project which is due to be completed in 2024, according to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport.
