New Year peak surcharges of 60% on fixed routes

Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has just sent a document to transport businesses in the province about transport surcharges during the Lunar New Year 2024. The maximum coach surcharge on fixed routes during the peak Lunar New Year holiday is 60%. Local authorities will boost transport inspection and illegal increase in ticket fares will be subject to fines.

Khanh Hoa Department of Finance and Department of Transportation have discussed and reached consensus on coach surcharges calculated in 2 phases, before and after Tet, from the 19th to the last day of the lunar year 2023 and from the 1st day to the 15th day of the lunar year 2024. The additional charge rate must not exceed 60%, applied for peak direction and no additional charge is allowed for the off-peak return, according to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation.

Specifically, before Tet, the maximum 60% surplus is applied on the transportation routes from Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City on February 2-9 or from the 23rd to the last day of the lunar year 2023; the maximum 40% surplus from January 29 to February 1 or from the 19th day to the 22nd day of the lunar year 2023.

After Tet, the maximum 60% surplus is applied on the transportation routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa on February 10-12 or from the 1st to the 3rd day of the lunar year 2024. The maximum 60% surplus is allowed on the transportation routes from Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City on February 13-19 or from the 4th to the 10th day of the lunar new year 2024; the maximum 20% surplus on February 20-24 or from the 11th day to the 15th day of the new year 2024.

According to Cao Tan Loi, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation, the department has required the businesses to follow loading, passenger drop-off and pick-up regulations and GPS tracking requirements.

Coach station management agencies are responsible for checking vehicles’ compliance with requirements for registration, technical safety and environmental protection certification, civil liability insurance, badges, fire extinguishers, and emergency hammers, driver's licenses...) before departure.

The transport of animals is banned on passenger vehicles. Furthermore, the hotline and other authorities’ contact numbers must be posted up for passengers to give comments when necessary.
