Promoting urban development

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just approved Khanh Hoa’s urban development program till 2030 with a vision till 2045. The target of the program is to implement the Politburo's Resolution No. 09 on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045.

Striving to achieve many important criteria

According to Khanh Hoa’s  urban development program till 2030 with a vision till 2045, Khanh Hoa will become a centrally-governed city by 2030 with 9 district-level administrative units, including the 2 cities of Nha Trang and Cam Lam; 2 districts of Ninh Hoa and Cam Ranh; 2 towns of Dien Khanh and Van Ninh; and 3 districts of Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh and Truong Sa.

Regarding urban development criteria, period till 2025, Khanh Hoa will reach an urbanization rate of 65%. Nha Trang will strive to achieve 100% of the criteria and standards for a type I urban area in the province. Cam Ranh will basically meet some standards and criteria of a type II urban area.

Ninh Hoa Town is a type IV urban area, continuing to strive to upgrade urban quality, basically meeting some criteria of a type III urban area. Dien Khanh Town will meet a type IV urban area; Van Ninh District will meet the criteria and standards of a type IV urban area.

Cam Lam District will focus on investing in Cam Lam new urban area to basically meet standards and criteria of type III urban areas during this period and then a type I urban area by 2030.

Regarding the urban system, during this period, Khanh Hoa continues to achieve the criteria of being a type I urban area of a centrally-governed city; Subordinate urban areas will focus on implementing projects to create motivation for socio-economic development.

Comprehensive measures to be implemented

According to the leaders of the Department of Construction, in the coming time, the City People's Committees of Nha Trang City and Cam Ranh will pilot urban development projects to respond to climate change and sea level rise scenarios, and smart urban development; then widely deploy the smart urban development projects across the province.

Urban development investment projects using public funding and other capital sources are arranged in the order of priority for each year, 5-year and 10-year periods. The total funding needed to implement the Provincial Urban Development Program till 2030 is estimated to be about VND1,299,000 billion, including VND549,053 billion in the period to 2025 and VND749,947 billion in the period 2026 - 2030.

According to Tran Van Chau, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Construction, to achieve the goal of Khanh Hoa becoming a centrally-governed city by 2030, in the coming time, the province needs to improve the quality of urban planning that meets sustainable urban construction, management and development; focus on developing the urban system properly and synchronously; promote the development of housing and urban infrastructure systems that are synchronous, modern, linked, and adaptive to climate change.

In addition, it is essential to improve the urban government model, efficiency of urban management and quality of urban life; ensure social security and welfare; urban order and security; promote economic development in urban areas; and innovate financial mechanisms and policies for urban development.
