Comprehensive health services focused

Khanh Hoa Provincial Health sector has effectively carried out many activities in community health protection and care.

In 2023, thanks to the support and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee and the medical staff’s tremendous efforts, some important achievements were gained with many health care targets fulfilled and exceeded. 

There are 36.4 patient beds per 10,000 population; 12.4 doctors per 10,000 population; 94% people are covered by medical insurance. Covid-19 pandemic has been under control. There are more than 7,000 medical staff, including more than 1,560 doctors in public and non-public facilities. Currently, more than 50% of doctors have the first Degree Specialist qualifications or higher. 68% of doctors at Khanh Hoa  General Hospital are holders of the second Degree Specialist qualifications or PhD degrees. Basically, the doctors in the province have met the medical care demands.

In recent years, doctors has received and implemented many advanced specialized techniques in medical care and treatment. Substantial investments in healthcare infrastructures have been made with minimally invasive surgical techniques deployed, contributing to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, helping ease the burden on higher-level hospitals. Medical ethics have been ensured. Working conditions for medical have been improved together with recruitment and retention strategy to attract skilled doctors.

Besides, the Department of Health coordinates with the Department of Finance to provide consultancy for the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Provincial People's Council the Resolution No. 11 (2022) regulating the support for the training of healthcare professionals to attract and retain skilled labor.

Implementing the Medical Human Resource Development Program for the period 2021 - 2025, since 2021, 29 doctors have been sent to attend intensive second Degree Specialist training courses, 87 to first Degree Specialist training, 17 masters; 15 first Degree Specialist pharmacists, 1 master of pharmacy; etc. At grassroots facilities, training have been also boosted together with work transfer among levels of health care facilities.

Pursuant to the Resolution No. 09 by the Politburo on construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045, Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital will become the largest hospital in South Central Coast region. Accordingly, the hospital is designed to have intensive care capacity and be well-equipped with 1,500 beds, focusing on developing the Center for Orthopedic Trauma - Burns, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Intensive Resuscitation, Intensive care, Interventional Cardiology, etc.

In late 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directed the Provincial People's Committee to ensure the completion of the Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital Construction Project and assigned the Ministry of Health to take responsibility for providing technical guidance and ensuring the correct implementation of goals according to Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo. Hopefully, with the attention and drastic direction of the Central and Provincial governments, the project will soon be implemented.

The health care development goal in the coming time is to focus on investing in human and material resources for the preventive health care, building Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital to become the largest hospital in South Central Coast region and developing other specialized hospitals.
