Promoting social housing development

The Ministry of Construction held an online conference on February 22 to develop a scheme to build at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income earners and workers at industrial parks nationwide in the period 2021 – 2030. The conference was presided over by Tran Hong Ha, Deputy Prime Minister. Virtually present at the event in Khanh Hoa Province was Tran Hoa Nam, Vice-Chairman of Provincial People's Committee.

Social housing development in many localities

According to the report of the Department of Construction, after the Prime Minister signed Decision 338/QD-TTg dated April 3, 2023, approving a scheme to build at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income earners and workers at industrial parks, period 2021 – 2030, many localities have focused on the development of social housing apartments.

Present at the teleconference in Khanh Hoa Province was Tran Hoa Nam, Vice-Chairman of Provincial People's Committee.

1,249 plots, 8,390 hectares, have been planned nationwide for social housing. In the period 2021 - 2023, the country had 499 social housing projects with 411,250 apartments. Of these, 71 projects have been completed with 37,868 apartments; 127 projects are under construction with 107,896 apartments; and 301 projects have been granted investment grants with 265,486 apartments.

Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi assessed the social housing development has achieved many important results in recent years. Many localities have done a good job in attracting investment and promoting social housing construction.

Many social housing projects developed in Khanh Hoa 

According to the report of the Department of Construction, Khanh Hoa will have 7,800 social housing apartments, including 3,400 apartments in 2021 – 2025 period and 4,400 in 2026 – 2030. Before December 31, 2020, 16 projects with nearly 3,700 apartments were built and completed in Khanh Hoa. In the 2021 – 2025, Khanh Hoa has completed the construction of 3 social housing projects with nearly 3,000 apartments and approved in principle the investment in 2 projects with over 4,400 apartments, namely Hung Phu Social Housing Building with 1,221 apartments on 2-4 Street, Nha Trang City and Cam Nghia Housing Building with 3,000 apartments in Cam Ranh. Besides, 2 social housing projects, namely 02 Social House Building in Phuoc Long New Urban Area and Cam Ranh Social Housing Building, are underway in Cam Ranh City.

On January 11, Vinhomes Joint Stock Company (Vingroup Corporation) started construction on the Happy Home social housing project with 3.600 apartments in Cam Nghia Ward, Cam Ranh City. Besides, Nguyen Hanh Construction Investment Design Consulting Company, Ltd. is making procedures to start construction on the Hung Phu 2 Social Housing Project (2-4 St., Nha Trang City) with 1,221 apartments.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the importance and humanity of the project in ensuring accommodation for low-income workers. In the coming time, the Ministry of Construction, ministries, agencies, localities and businesses need to pay attention to planning for social housing development; focus on site clearance and capital planning for social housing construction, especially from non-State funding sources. Currently, the disbursement of VND120,000 billion preferential credit package for social housing development is still slow; therefore, the bank was asked to review and evaluate the situation to have practical solutions.
