Supporting workers dealing with layoffs and income reductions

Faced with a decline in business and production due to the world economic uncertainty, some employers had to go through temporary layoffs and paycuts in Khanh Hoa Province. Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation has provided some assistance to share the burden with workers.

Timely support

The export cutback in 2023 was largely responsible for the reduction in jobs at Bac Lieu Seafood Joint Stock Company (Suoi Dau Industrial Park, Cam Lam District). To share difficulties with workers and encourage them to stay with the business amid the hard times, the Provincial Labor Federation decided to allocate more than VND67 million VND to support 134 workers.

“I have been working at the company for 7 years. Despite difficulties, the company has made efforts to ensure work and income for us, I’m so grateful for that as well as the aid from Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation,” said Le Thi Lan.

A decline in business at VTB Truong Thinh Joint Stock Company left hundreds of employees unemployed or temporarily laid off. Workers were given VND200,000 each for the Lunar New Year holiday. Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation offered financial gifts to the remaining 24 workers of the company. “I’m so glad to receive a gift from the Trade Union. Hopefully, the company will soon overcome difficulties so that we can have jobs and increase income," a worker said.

With orders drying up, nearly 100 workers of Rang Dong Joint Stock Company, Dien Khanh District have been temporarily laid off from work. Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation has decided to spend VND192 million to support  96 workers. Receiving VND2 million aid, a worker named Vo Phuong Quang said, “The assistance is so helpful for us in the current time. I hope the business will soon recover and we get back to work.”

In solidarity with Trade Union members and workers

According to the leader of Bac Lieu Seafood Joint Stock Company, the support of the Provincial Labor Confederation is very valuable, contributing to sharing financial difficulties and encouraging employees to stay with the business. Currently, the company is expanding connections with partners in Japan and Korea, opening more prospects in 2024. The company hopes that the Trade Union will provide support and help workers feel secure in staying with the company in the long run.

Tran Thi Huong, Vice President of the Provincial Confederation of Labor said that in recent years, Trade Unions have promoted their role and responsibility in taking care of and protecting the legal and legitimate rights of union members. The assistance is to partly share difficulties with workers through the hard times so that workers can feel secure and continue to stay with their companies in efforts to recover and stabilize production and business.

During the 2024 Lunar New Year Holiday, the Trade Union at all levels mobilized and implemented many activities worth VND 52 billion in total to support members and workers. To stabilize labor after Tet, the Trade Union at all levels has coordinated with local authorities to welcome workers from a year-end break; publicize production and business plans for 2024, etc. contributing to building a harmonious work relationship.
