“Meet Khanh Hoa - Indonesia” Conference 2024

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee held “Meet Khanh Hoa - Indonesia” Conference 2024 in Nha Trang City on March 21.

Present at the event were Indonesian delegates including Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries; Teten Masduki, Minister of Cooperatives and Small & Medium Enterprises; Denny Abdi, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam; Adhy Karyono, Acting Governor of East Java together with corporations and businesses in Indonesia; Vietnamese delegates including Nguyen Hai Ninh, Central Party Committee Member, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee together with members of Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Committee, leaders of local departments and agencies.

Opening chances

At the conference, the two sides introduced mutual potentials and strengths in an effort  to open opportunities and boost cooperation and investment in such fields as high-tech agriculture, sustainable seafood development, tourism and import-export. Indonesia is an ASEAN's large economy. Indonesia is also the ASEAN’s largest market with a population of more than 270 million and is a potential market for Khanh Hoa Province.

Some businesses having trade relations with Indonesia include Khanh Hoa Hai Vuong Co., Ltd. (seafood), Thinh Hung Co., Ltd. (seafood), Linh Anh Seafish Co., Ltd. (seafood), Mechanical Joint Stock Company Vina Nha Trang Gas (machinery), Khatoco Printing and Packaging Joint Stock Company (packaging), Long Sinh Company Ltd. (fish meal), Mentch Company Limited (machinery), Philips Seafoods Co., Ltd (plastic trays), Thong Nhat Swimwear Co., Ltd.

According to Nguyen Tan Tuan, central orientations and specific mechanisms for Khanh Hoa province; together with approved plans are an important basis and premise in meeting the general goals set out by the Politburo defining that Khanh Hoa will become a centrally-governed city by 2030 based on highly promoting the potential and advantages of the sea; a smart, sustainable urban area; an international marine tourism and service center; a center of marine economy, high-tech industry, science and technology, innovation, human resource training and high-quality health care in the South Central Coast region, the Central Highlands and the whole country; a peaceful and happy place with a high living standard. In the vision to 2050, Khanh Hoa will become a major national marine economic center; and strive to become one of Asia's leading coastal cities with synchronous and modern infrastructures.

In the coming time, Khanh Hoa will sustainably boost urbanization in adaption to climate change and sea-level rise; develop urban infrastructures synchronously, especially framework technical infrastructures and essential social infrastructures; ensure the urban economy grows rapidly, efficiently and sustainably; improve health care and living standards in urban areas, etc.

Nguyen Tan Tuan affirmed the conference is important to affirm Indonesia as an important investor and partner for the development of Khanh Hoa Province. Hopefully, Khanh Hoa will attract more and more Indonesian investors. Their technological and financial strengths and experience together with the advantages of Khanh Hoa are expected to help bring great benefits to both partners and contribute to promoting the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia in general and between Khanh Hoa and Indonesia in particular. Khanh Hoa Province is committed to providing favorable conditions for Indonesian businesses and investors to implement projects and ensure sustainable development in the future.

Potentials for cooperation

Evaluating the potential for cooperation, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said the world population is projected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, driving the need for protein to 70%. Therefore, the global seafood market is forecast to grow at an annual rate of up to 8.92%. This growth creates huge opportunities for the industry. In this conference, Indonesia would like to cooperate with Khanh Hoa on the seafood industry and Indonesia is committed to creating favorable conditions for Khanh Hoa and Vietnamese businesses to invest in Indonesia.

According to Teten Masduki, Minister of Cooperatives and Small & Medium Enterprises, ASEAN is an important production region in the fields of agriculture and fisheries. Vietnam and Indonesia are two major rice-producing countries in the world; play an important role in the region in terms of the seafood industry. Vietnam is moving towards modern agriculture and Indonesia is converting from traditional agriculture to digital agriculture. Vietnam and Indonesia can cooperate on agriculture and fisheries. The “Meet Khanh Hoa – Indonesia” Conference is an opportunity for businesses to explore investment opportunities, especially in the fields of seafood, digital economy, tourism and real estate, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi emphasized.

Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan confirmed a great opportunity for cooperation between Khanh Hoa and Indonesia as well as favorable conditions for Indonesian businesses to invest in Khanh Hoa. Khanh Hoa Province always considers businesses and investors as the driving force for the provincial socio-economic development.
