Free “hydration stations” for travelers

Any travelers may quench their thirst at "hydration stations" for free on many roads in Khanh Hoa Province during hot days.

In the shade of an almond tree at 215 Le Hong Phong, Nha Trang City is a container of iced tea with single-use cups available for free use. The water container has been there for about 3 months now for anyone to stop for a drink during days of extreme heat.

“Hydration stations” offer free drinking water for travelers.

Nguyen Thi Anh Thu, an owner of Chau auto parts store places a container of drinking water every morning and refills it many times a day from 7 - 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for everyone to quench their thirst for free.

A container of free iced tea at 5B Le Quy Don, Nha Trang is placed by the owner of An Farm Store for free use from 7-8 am to 9 pm every day (except days when the store is closed) since July 2022. Truong Thi Tuyet Trinh, the store owner said, “I put a 20l water container for thirsty travelers. The cost is not much but it’s really helpful for travelers. I have kept running the refill point for nearly 2 years.”

The free water container on Le Quy Don Street (Nha Trang City) is filled by the store owner.

Another free container of iced tea can be seen every day at a corner of Han Thuyen and Phan Boi Chau Streets for more than 8 years. Its owner, Pham Thi Anh Thu, puts the water container in front of her typewriter desk.

Such refill points can be dotted on many other streets, namely Phong Chau, Tran Nhat Duat, 23 thang 10, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Ngo Gia Tu, etc. in Nha Trang City.

A “hydration station” is also set up by Van Ninh District Power Youth Union Branch at 507 Hung Vuong on the National Highway running through Van Gia Town, Van Ninh District.

Students of Van Lang Junior High School, Van Ninh District drink water at the free refill point set up by Van Ninh Van Ninh Power Youth Union Branch.

Nguyen Quoc Huy, Secretary of Van Ninh Power Youth Union Branch said, “The free drinking water container serving students and any travelers 10 to 15 liters/day during hot months. We are so glad to give thirsty travelers some help during days of extreme heat.”

The free drinking water stations help travelers quench their thirst for free as well as bring the warmth of giving. Nguyen Thi Hang, a lottery ticket seller residing in Phu Yen Province does not have to bring bottles of water with her during the long way to work and back home thanks to such free “refill stations”.

Nguyen Van Thuong in Dien Khanh District, a rider of a three-wheeled vehicle said, “I stop for a drink whenever there is a free water container. Drinking cold water during the workout keeps me cool and decreases heat-related stress and fatigue during hot days. I’m so grateful for the good deeds.”
