In March 2024, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee agreed to invest in a project to renovate and improve traffic at the intersection of Ring Road 2 and To Huu Street with the Ring Road 2 going under To Huu Street together with the widening of Quan Truong Bridge. However, the Department of Transport has recently reported to the Provincial People's Committee a change in the project implementation with the immediate solution being the widening Quan Truong Bridge and improving the intersection at both ends of the bridge to ensure traffic safety.
The intersection of To Huu Street and Ring Road 2 is often congested during rush hour. |
In September 2023, Ngoc Hoi intersection officially opened to traffic on 3/4 branches, of which the southern branch connects to Ring Road 2 running along Quan Truong River to the endpoint at Nguyen Tat Thanh Street. According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, Quan Truong Bridge, 14m wide, has two-way lanes, much smaller than the current cross-section of Vo Nguyen Giap Street, 46m wide, leading to transportation bottlenecks in the south of Quan Truong Bridge.
Since the southern branch of Ring Road 2 and a part of Ngoc Hoi intersection were put into temporary operation, the number of vehicles passing through the intersection of Quan Truong bridge and Ring Road 2 has increased significantly. Besides, as the gateway to Nha Trang City center in the west, the bridge landscape improvement is required to be matched with surrounding structures.
Therefore, the investment in widening Quan Truong Bridge is essential to ensure that Vo Nguyen Giap Street is perfectly connected to Ring Road 2 and To Huu Street, creating harmonious aesthetics and traffic safety for travelers.
Currently, Ngoc Hoi intersection and Ring Road 2 southern branch, the section from Ngoc Hoi intersection to Nguyen Tat Thanh street have been put into temporary operation. Therefore, the Department of Transport has reported to the Provincial People's Committee, proposing an investment plan for the Project to renovate and improve traffic at the intersection of Ring Road 2 and To Huu Street, combined with widening Quan Truong Bridge with 2 stages. Phase 1 includes the widening of Quan Truong Bridge and improving the intersection at both ends of the bridge. The total expected investment is about VND210 billion.
After the Ring Road 2 Project is accepted and handed over, the Department of Transport will provide consultancy for the Provincial People's Committee to invest in the phase 2 construction according to the plan of Ring Road 2 going under To Huu Street through an underground tunnel.
The Provincial People's Committee has approved the proposal for the phase 1 and requested the department to urgently complete procedures to propose investment policies for the Provincial People's Committee to submit to the Provincial People's Council for approval.
