Dynamic English language playground for students

Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union has just held the 4th Olympic English for Students 2024 to inspire interest in learning English and improve English language skills in the community under the program “Khanh Hoa residents speak English” hosted by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and sponsored by Vingroup.

Launched in early July, the contest has attracted more than 3,000 students from across the province. 8 excellent candidates were selected to advance to the final round for high-school students and 7 to the final round for university students.

In the final round with the topic "Khanh Hoa students preserve cultural identity in the context of international integration", contestants were asked to do public speaking and answer questions from the jury members.

Some solutions and suggestions given by students included raising young people’s awareness of the importance of preserving cultural identity and culture; and developing specific programs and plans to promote the role of students.

Student Le Dong Uyen Nghi, a 10th grader, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Nha Trang City) said, "It took me about a week to prepare for the speaking topic, then I translated it into English and practiced public speaking at home."

According to the contestants, the topics required broad knowledge and a rich English vocabulary. The contest attracted a lot of contestants and others to cheer for their friends. “I feel excited to be here to cheer for the contestants. They speak English fluently with good pronunciation. I feel more motivated and interested in learning English,” said Tran Nguyen Hoang Nam, Class 11B7, Nguyen Van Troi High School.

According to Huynh Thi Nhu Y, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Students’ Association, English language skills are becoming increasingly important in the context of international integration. Together with the program “Khanh Hoa residents speak English”, period 2022 – 2027, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has held the contest to widen knowledge, develop skills for students and inspire English learners. Excellent candidates will advance to the upcoming national contest. In the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union and Khanh Hoa Students' Association will continue organizing more playgrounds for students.
