Mini ‘fire engine’ designed for narrow alleys

Faced with complicated firefighting operations in small alleys, many localities nationwide have designed mini ‘fire engines' for use in such areas. Vinh Nguyen Ward Police, Nha Trang City has developed an improvised fire motorcycle fitted with a 40-litre water tank with a long jet hose to reach fires on narrow roads.

On July 19, Vinh Nguyen Ward People's Committee launched a "mobile fire engine" model and deployed it to all 17 grassroots security teams in 17 residential groups. Major Ly Be Ngoan, Deputy Chief of Vinh Nguyen Ward Police said, the mobile fire engines make the fire services more readily available for use to timely put out fires during the golden time.

Vinh Nguyen, an inner-city ward of Nha Trang City has many small alleys where fire trucks cannot enter in case of a fire. Therefore, besides developing fire safety family groups, the ward police has provided consultancy for the Ward Party Committee and People’s Committee to develop a roving fire engine model to help reduce fire risks from beginning in residential areas.

Accordingly, 17 residential groups are equipped with 17 fire motorcycles. In  addition, 2 fire motorcycles are also available at the ward police headquarters to provide timely support when needed. The fire motorcycles, compact and mobile, with  fire hose nozzles  that can shoot water 20m away and reach a height of about 10m, equivalent to a 2-storey house, helping to eradicate fire incidents completely from the beginning during the "golden" time.

“The model is really helpful and efficient in small alleys to promptly prevent the fire from occurring in the first place," said a resident named Vo Van Ca, Vinh Nguyen Ward.

Together with fire safety family groups, the mobile fire engine, VND7-8 million each, can reach a fire as soon as it starts in small alleys to eliminate the threat completely. The fire control solution is also to mobilize the public to get engaged in fire prevention and control in residential areas.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ho Chi Thanh, Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Department of the Provincial Public Security, Vinh Nguyen Ward is the first locality in the province to develop the model that meets the criteria of mobility, flexibility and readiness, helping to eradicate many fire incidents completely from the beginning, thereby preventing potential destruction.

This model together with fire safety family groups is believed to aid professional firefighters in preventing fires from the beginning, protecting lives and properties.
