Meals of kindness

Sharing meals is what the volunteer group of women in Ninh Tho Commune, Ninh Hoa Town is doing to help those in need.

At 3:00 a.m. on the first day every lunar month, members of the Volunteer Group of the Women's Association of Xuan My Village gather at the village's Cultural and Sports House to cook vegetarian meals for those in need.

This activity has been maintained since April 2024. Each time, 15 to 20 people get engaged in the cooking of 200 to 250 free portions to lonely elderly people and disadvantaged families. The meals cost VND2 million/ day funded by the group members themselves are served on-site or delivered to the doors of elderly people.

“Giving is receiving” Club offers free meals to the needy.

Duong Thi Mong Kieu, head of the group said, “We hope to share our love and kindness to others by donating to the charity funding to help those in need. The meals do not cost much but they are from our hearts, contributing to the local social security.”

“Giving is receiving” Club of Women’s Association Branch of Ninh Dien Village was founded in June 2022 with 17 members. The club offers 180 – 250 free portions to the needy on the first day of every lunar month. The members donate VND50,000-100,000 each and seek donations for the poor.

The meals are brought to the village community house to be delivered to the homes of the elderly. Phan Thi Thanh Tam, Director of the club said, “When unable to serve meals, we give 10 gifts to disadvantaged families. The club also sponsors 2 orphans with VND200,000-300,000/ quarter/ child in cash or in terms of necessities.

A resident named Tran Thi Quy, Ninh Dien Village is so happy that the club offers free meals and gifts as well to many in hardship. Tran Thi Nap, Xuan My Village is so grateful to receive free delicious meals which help her to save some daily costs.

According to Nguyen Thi An, Chairperson of the Women's Union of Ninh Tho commune, in the commune there are 7 volunteer groups and clubs run by women with 82 members. The groups serve free meals on the 15th and 1st of every lunar month to people in need. Besides, there are also other volunteer groups in the villages of Lac Ninh, Binh Son, Chanh Thanh, Lac Binh, Lac An.

According to Phan Nhuong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council of Ninh Tho Commune, the volunteer groups and clubs organized by women have helped many people, contributing to fostering solidarity and sharing through vegetarian meals for the lonely elderly, orphans and disabled children. This meaningful work has brought the warmth of giving and greatly contributed to enhancing local social security.
