Mau Thanh Huynh from Son Tan Commune got injured in his leg by a woodcutter while doing housework. His family took him to Cam Lam District General Hospital for treatment. Due to the deep wound, he had to be treated for nearly a week. His treatment cost, more than VND5.3 million, was fully covered by the Health Insurance Fund. As an ethnic minority person, he benefits from healthcare policies, helping reduce the financial burden of unexpected medical expenses.
Cao Thi Huyen from Suoi Cat Commune has suffered from multiple diseases such as heart failure, chronic kidney failure, and diabetes, requiring long-term treatment at the Provincial General Hospital for many years at a cost of hundreds of millions of Vietnam dongs. As an ethnic minority person, her hospital fees were fully paid by the Health Insurance Fund.
Since the beginning of the year, the Health Insurance Fund has paid more than VND 200 million for her treatment. Thanks to health insurance, she was able to receive timely treatment.
The two cases above are among thousands of ethnic minorities in Cam Lam District who have received timely treatment and healthcare thanks to the health insurance policy. According to the Social Insurance of Cam Lam District, by the end of October, 3,315 people in the district were granted health insurance cards for ethnic minorities, of which 45 people participated in voluntary social insurance. In the first nine months of 2024, the Health Insurance Fund paid for 2,158 inpatient and outpatient treatments for ethnic minorities, with a total cost of more than VND 453.3 million.
In recent years, the Party and the State have provided health insurance support policies for ethnic minorities. Accordingly, the Health Insurance Fund covers 100% of the medical examination and treatment costs, facilitating their access to medical services. In particular, cases of serious illness requiring long-term treatment with high costs are also promptly paid by the Health Insurance Fund, helping to reduce the financial burden for poor patients.
Promoting propaganda
According to Le Van Dong, Director of Cam Lam District Social Insurance, the implementation of health insurance policies for ethnic minority people in Cam Lam District has been effectively carried out over the years. The healthcare insurance policy is implemented with a focus on enhancing access to quality health services, reducing the burden of healthcare costs, and contributing to improving the quality of life for ethnic minorities.
To facilitate local residents’ access to social insurance, health insurance, and social insurance benefits, the district has strengthened propaganda and ensured beneficial policies reach ethnic minority communities in the district. The district social insurance has coordinated with the People's Committees of communes with many ethnic minority households such as Son Tan, Suoi Cat, and Cam Phuoc Tay to organize communication activities about health insurance and social insurance to ensure flexibility, creativity and high efficiency under the actual situations and the culture of the ethnic minorities.
In addition, the district social insurance has also coordinated with medical facilities to provide health insurance benefits for ethnic minority people as well as promoted the use of chio-based citizen identity cards and the installation of the digital social insurance app (VssID) for medical examination and treatment of health insurance.
