Temporary parking lots to be operational soon

To address the parking shortage in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has approved the temporary use of vacant land as parking lots. The Provincial People's Committee has permitted Nha Trang City People's Committee to utilize vacant land plots managed by the Provincial Land Fund Development Center for temporary public parking, aiming to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Temporary use of vacant land as parking lots proposed

Currently, passenger buses parking illegally can be seen on many streets in Nha Trang City. According to a leader of the Nha Trang City People's Committee, there are no licensed parking lots in the city. The high urbanization rate, the rapid tourism development and the increase in the number of vehicles have put great pressure on the city's traffic infrastructures. Therefore, the temporary use of vacant land as parking lots until the parking planning is completed is essential to solve the current shortage of parking lots in the city. Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, Nha Trang City People's Committee has reviewed vacant lots for temporary parking lots.

In the report dated October 7, Nha Trang City People's Committee proposed that the Provincial People's Committee assign the City People's Committee to manage and exploit temporary parking lots at the Gas Station Lot No. 4, on 23/10 Street (next to Long Son Pagoda) and the former Ana Mandara Resort on Tran Phu Street. The city will establish a plan to manage and exploit temporary parking lots for a limited period with the following such requirements as infrastructure investment from the city budget; parking service prices according to the decision issued on December 15, 2016 by the Provincial People's Committee; encouragement of non-cash fee collection, etc.

For the land lots managed by the Provincial Land Fund Development Center, Nha Trang City People's Committee proposed that the Provincial People's Committee assign the City People's Committee to organize the management and exploitation of temporary parking lots.

Regarding 13 vacant lots in urban areas, namely Le Hong Phong I, Le Hong Phong II, My Gia Vinh Thai, Thai Xuan, former Nha Trang airport area, Nha Trang City People's Committee proposed the Provincial People's Committee to assign the urban area investor or project investor to organize management and exploitation as temporary parking lots.

Procedures of temporary use of vacant land as parking lots to be completed

The land plots currently managed by the Provincial Land Fund Development Center and proposed to be used as temporary parking lots include No. 170 Le Hong Phong, No. 03 Nguyen Tat Thanh, No. 7-10 Truong Son, the former Nha Trang Sao project on Pham Van Dong Street, the old Quyet Thang Bus Station on Dien Bien Phu Street, the land plot of Cat Phu Company on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street and Binh Tan Port Warehouse.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a document requesting the Department of Transport, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Nha Trang City People's Committee to promptly complete procedures to exploit unused land funds for temporary parking lots in Nha Trang City to meet the requirements of socio-economic development and the needs of the people. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee agrees in principle to let the Nha Trang City People's Committee borrow land plots managed by the Provincial Land Fund Development Center to organize temporary parking lots for public purposes to reduce traffic congestion in the city until investment procedures for parking lots in Nha Trang City completed and approved by competent authorities

The Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with the Provincial Land Fund Development Center to hand the land over to Nha Trang City People's Committee to be used as temporary parking lots; the Department of Transport to urgently report on the plan to use temporary parking lots in urban areas to ease the current traffic pressure in Nha Trang City; Nha Trang City People's Committee to urgently receive the land handover from the Provincial Land Fund Development Center to develop the management and exploitation plan for temporary parking lots to ensure traffic safety, security and fire prevention and control, according to Tran Hoa Nam, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
