At Cam Ranh Military Port on December 26, in the warm atmosphere of the last days of 2024, Naval Region 4 organized a farewell ceremony for the delegation visiting soldiers and people on the Spratly Islands for the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025. This trip carried not only peach and apricot blossoms but also letters and paintings sent from teachers and students in Ninh Binh Province to officers and soldiers stationed in Truong Sa.
Among the gifts from the mainland sent to officers and soldiers in Truong Sa was a small cardboard box containing letters and paintings from teachers and students in Ninh Binh Province. We were moved when we were allowed to read those emotional letters.
Letters from teachers and students are carefully kept to be sent to the Spratly Islands. |
A handwritten letter dated December 20, 2024, from a teacher named Dinh Cam Tu at Ly Tu Trong Junior High School in Ninh Binh Province, says:
“Dear soldiers working on the Spratly Islands,
We are from Hoa Lu City (Ninh Binh Province). On behalf of the school staff, I would like to send my best wishes to island soldiers. We recognize that our peace and happiness are thanks to the dedication, contributions, and sacrifices of the soldiers who protect our country's sovereignty and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. I believe you will continue overcoming difficulties to protect national sovereignty firmly. We hope that you will always keep your spirits high, accomplish every mission, overcome every challenge, and triumph over every adversary.”
A letter from Pham Thi Ngoc Bich, a 9A class student at Dinh Tien Hoang Junior High School in Hoa Lu City, Ninh Binh Province, reads, “Although thousands of kilometers away, you are always heroes in the hearts of people on the mainland. We appreciate your contribution to maintaining peace so that all of us on the mainland can lead a happy life. I also know that life on the islands is still hard, but with your steadfastness and solidarity, you overcome everything. We send you words of encouragement and support so that you have more motivation and strength. Every person on the mainland always looks up to you, prays for you to be healthy and safe and continue to excellently fulfill the task of protecting national sovereignty.”
Do Thi An Binh, an 8A class student at Ly Tu Trong Junior High School in Ninh Binh Province, writes, “Despite difficulties and hardships, your indomitable spirit keeps you attached to the beloved islands. You have made every effort to protect our territory. We appreciate the sacrifices of the heroes and martyrs on the islands and across Vietnam, which allow us to enjoy peaceful days going to school and playing with friends. We would like to send you the most beautiful spring flowers. We admire and respect you greatly and hope that one day I will have a chance to set foot on Truong Sa to meet you.”
There are more heartfelt letters and drawings of the sea and islands from teachers and students from all over the country sent to the Spratly Islands. These writings and drawings have brought warmth, encouragement and support from the mainland to soldiers and people on the Spratly Islands, reminding them that their sacrifices are recognized and valued.
