Many advanced techniques successfully implemented
In August 2024, thanks to a technology transfer from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Provincial Oncology Hospital successfully performed Thyroid nodule ablation with high-frequency waves, a modern, minimally invasive method.

57-year-old Dang Thuy Linh, Nha Trang City said, “Thyroid nodule ablation with high-frequency waves is available at the Provincial Oncology Hospital, which is very convenient for me as the hospital is close to my home. After the treatment, the symptoms of difficulty swallowing have gone, and I’m feeling better.”
In addition, through the transfer of technology from upper-level hospitals, up to now, the Provincial Oncology Hospital has basically treated all tumor diseases; and performed open and endoscopic surgeries for cancers of the digestive tract, thyroid, breast, head and neck, skin, etc.
Especially, the hospital has performed plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and rehabilitation of organs of patients with head, neck or skin cancer. Besides, the hospital has conducted radical radiotherapy for breast, gynecological and rectal cancers, symptomatic radiotherapy for head and neck cancers, bone and brain metastases; administered chemotherapy for most cancers; and performed targeted and immunological therapies for some cancers as indicated.
At the end of 2024, 61-year-old N.T.T.T, Nha Trang went to Khanh Hoa General Hospital with symptoms of swelling, red eyes and tinnitus in the right ear. She was diagnosed with Carotid Cavernous Fistula. She has agreed to have surgical treatment by endovascular intervention, a difficult technique.
With the support of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, the doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery of the hospital successfully conducted endovascular intervention. 5 days later, the patient was discharged from the hospital and the previous symptoms were gone.
Along with the above techniques, in 2024, the Provincial General Hospital received many new techniques, specializing in interventional cardiology; orthopedic trauma; neurosurgery; and digestive surgery from hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, such as Cho Ray, University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Nhi Dong I; Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine; Xuyen A General Hospital, etc.
Digital transformation boost
Together with specialized treatment techniques, in 2024, the health sector promoted digital transformation in all activities. 100% of medical facilities have been equipped with HIS hospital information management software. 2 medical facilities are piloting the electronic medical records and 5 others are piloting the remote medical examination system.
Furthermore, all 180 medical facilities in the province have implemented interconnected health records on VNeID and used ID cards for patient reception. In 2024, the Department of Health issued interconnected accounts for 996 medicine providers and ensured interconnected data on duocquocgia.com.vn with nearly 225,200 bills.
Identifying infrastructures as a vital factor in improving health care and treatment, in 2024, basic construction projects of the medical sector were developed and accelerated with an increase of 50 patient beds at Ninh Hoa General Hospital, 70 patient beds at Ninh Hoa Town Medical Center and 30 patient beds at Van Ninh District Medical Center; construction of Cam Ranh City Medical Center; Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control and repair of 19 medical stations. Some projects have been completed and put into operation.
According to Dr. Le Van Khoa, The Director of the Department of Health, implementing the Provincial Party Committee's Action Program No. 30 on implementing the Politburo's Resolution No. 09 on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045, the tasks and solutions set out by the health sector in 2025 and the following years are to develop a preventive health system, grassroots health care and a comprehensive medical examination and treatment network; strive for all health stations to have doctors; build the Provincial General Hospital into the largest hospital of the South Central Coast region; continue to promote digital transformation and attract high-quality human resources.
